A group of 23 or more veterans is traveling to the Mid East on their own dime to engage ISIS in battle. They are seeking donations to help buy needed supplies, medical, food, and equipment. The team consists of combat veterans and includes former Marines, and 2 former Rangers.
I thought it might be a worthwhile cause that some may wish to donate too.
They are not sanctioned or funded by the government, and are being discouraged by the White House.

I know there are already some US Vets fighting with various groups, but I've not heard of a group of US soldiers fighting together as a unit.

Here is some more info about it, with a link to their fund raising website

Mods, if this doesn't belong here, I'm sorry, can you move it to the proper section please?

Sorry, but this isn't something that I want to support. We have a military.

volunteering to go help a needy cause is historically American.

I admire their bravery but am afraid they are on a suicide mission. We still have a military?? Too bad there is no one to lead it.

Does that mean that you are volunteering to serve, Marc? That could change my mind about contributing. :)

there's a reoccurring subject that comes up at my favorite gun shop--- in the same manner as guided hunts where a group of hunters hire an outfitter and guides to go to some place and hunt, there should be somebody arranging "hunts" to Syria, Iraq, etc. 3 days and 2 nights in or around some hot spot, well appointed roof top blind, professional spotters, weapons of choice. secure base camp, gourmet meals, open bar, "room service", etc. this wouldn't be cheap, but it's not some pretend CCW class.
any "volunteers"?
(when old guys talk about "send in the military", that tells me 2 things- 1) they never learned jack from history. 2)they have no family in the military that could get killed in some goofy place for some goofy reason.)

As soon as they run out of the ammo they are carrying they are dead men. Donations will never reach them, and if it did where are they going to spend the money? It's a bad idea and impossible to work.
You could be funding the "enemy", who knows where the money will go.

That's the bear of the matter is they have to depend on their allies for weapons and ammo, since you can't just waltz into Turkey with AR15s and thousands of rounds of ammo. The Kurds seem to keep the volunteers already there supplied, so I suppose they can handle a few more. Plus whatever they can scavenge off their victims. It would be nice if they could work out a deal with Israel to drop them supplies. Since ISIS is a common enemy. Maybe Russia will send some supplies since they'll be helping the Syrian Govt. stay in power. Russia's only ally in the region.

I think their hearts in the right place. I hope they can work out the supplies. 23 American vets or more could probably rain hell on some ISIS goat rapers. I hope they coat their bullets or fill up the hollow tips with lard. This isn't conventional war, so they won't be restricted to hardball ammo, although that's most likely what will be most plentiful.

If I was young and had the experience and was single, I'd consider joining them. If I could afford it, I send them some body armor.

Our Chicken in Chief isn't likely to commit any ground troops to the cause. He'd rather sit back and drone-bomb people in cafe's. What's a few innocents killed as long as you get your target?
If he'd listened to the top brass and not been so bull headed about pulling ALL troops out, and announcing it to the world, we might not be in this predicament.

+I think they've been watching too many Rambo movies where one guy goes into hostile territory, takes on an entire army, and the insurgent army has the worse aim ever. I believe that this is a publicity stunt, and I seriously doubt that it would be legal for them to do... Not that it would matter because they'd be dead anyway.

It sounds like they mean well and have good intentions but lets face it, it's a lost cause unless we send back our military ground troops and retake the hard fought for territory again where we lost so many of our best young men and women before and IMHO it's just not worth it, let the rag heads have it....Right now we are sending in surgical air srtikes with million dollar smart bombs to blow up our own tanks, artillery, armored personnel carriers and humvees that the coward Iraq security force leave behind when they high tail it out of town at the first sign of trouble....

We could win this war with air power by daily carpet bombing the crap out of ISIS until they get tired and crawl back to whatever rock they came out from under but it just wont happen with the total WUS we have in the White House now....Yesterday our fearless leader Brick Obummer spoke at the Coast Guard Cadet graduation ceremony saying that Global Warming is the greatest danger that our Military will face in the future.....Seriously!!!

Send the body armor to the local post office addressed to US Freedom Fighters. I am sure they would get it.

This is more likely to happen to these vet fighters than anything else.

What I've learned from history is that if you want to retain your freedom you had better be ready to fight for it. I fulfilled my full military obligation on active duty during the height of the Vietnam War. People who aren't willing to fight for their freedom don't deserve to be free.

"You could be funding the "enemy", who knows where the money will go."

well, isn't that US foreign policy in a nutshell? who funded the folks that fought the Russians in Afghanistan? CIA's best buddy, bin Laden? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIA%E2%80%93al-Qaeda_controversy ). funny how US foreign policy always gets bit in the butt. maybe need some new strategies?
maybe the Vatican can come up with some funding, a whadja callit, holy war? oh wait, that's how all this started.
