FERGUSON • A plaque and a bronze dove dedicated to Michael Brown Jr. were installed Thursday in the sidewalk near where he was fatally shot by police Aug. 9, taking the place of makeshift memorials of stuffed animals that were removed Wednesday. The bronze plaque along Canfield Drive bears his birth date, the date he was killed and a depiction of Brown. It also expresses, in verse, the hope of family members that memories of him will be happy ones. It says nothing about what came before, during or after his encounter with Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson.
(notice the union concrete finisher doing the install, off camera is some Ferguson PD for his safety and general crowd control.)

Good for them but they should've installed it in the middle of the street where the lug was walking with his stolen cigars.........

Wish I had a bunch of money, I'd have em install a plaque for Officer Wilson whose career ended for being a hero enforcing the law. Maybe an officer Wilson Wall so the locals have something to spray their graffiti on, kind of dual purpose.

We got another officer involved shooting close to home here just day before yesterday, already the protest and vigils. Both bad guys are still alive last I heard. I'm hoping they both live and somehow manage to man up and speak the truth and admit they got shot cause they were being punks and beating on the officer with a skateboard.

Probably won't happen.

Dreamer. Making hero's out of criminals is what they do now. Started with Rodney King way back when.

There are paid protesters in motels in the Cleveland suburbs waiting for a verdict in the Michael Brelo trial. I hope that the judge doesn't render his verdict until after Labor Day. That should run the protesters low on cash and take all profit out of rioting. We shoot rioter and looters in Cleveland.

Sombody needs go open a Go Fund Me account to raise money that will go to the first person willing to walk down the sidewalk and take a wiz on it in broad daylight. As a matter of fact it could be a protest line and make it a parade of folks.

I probably shouldn't have said that but that's just how I'm feeling after reading that. As a matter of fact they could put a picture of Jesse, Al, and Holder there too. They're just as guilty.

If you have any money left in that fund we could put up another memorial something like this right beside his..

Did you serve Marc? I don't know of a single Vet who ever pissed on a grave. I don't doubt that some may have considered the option.

There's already a plaque available in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. Its supposed to mark the spot where he and Michelle first kissed.

not many VN vets left or at least ones who would admit to it. after Korea, some folks were sure this country would never get into a stupid, worthless war again. then there was VN and Grenada(hehehehhe!) now, Iraq and Afghanistan. nobody ever learns from these tragedies. US just keeps blundering and plundering along. here's and interesting read-- http://usiraq.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=000671#miltfatstat after going thru that, google for reasons we were there. democracy in the middle east? some kind of oil deal? stemming the tide of some cooked up bs? good luck. I really want this country to bring back the draft, no deferments, everybody (boys and girls, rich and connected) must go and support the US foreign policy.

Consider how inept the average young person is. Then consider that means half of 'em are even more clueless than that! And you want them in uniform on a mandatory basis?

How about we keep the military a choice for the motivated, until such time we need expendables. Thinning out the heard is always a good thing.....

I'm all in favor of every able bodied American serving for at least two years on active duty upon completion of high school. Perhaps then they wouldn't be so clueless and would better appreciate what they have in this country. Seems to work out quite well for the Israelis.

I've often thought a mandatory 2 year stint in the military might provide a clue for the clueless you mention. Those aimless souls with not goal or respect for anybody could benefit immensely from a couple months with a motivated drill instructor.

Many don't need it, they are brought up correctly such as a new Marine I know of but even he came away with a whole new respect.
He use to cringe as we did stuff as I'd say neat and orderly fashion. Basic training presented a whole new meaning to that phrase.

He also said some of the chores we asked of him were like a day off compared to the stuff they did there.

Many of course can't be saved and perhaps those could fall into your expendable category although I'm not really fond of the word expendable, I've been that all my life, still hanging in.

What we didn't learn is that you don't go to war without a goal of unconditional surrender. Nation building seems to have worked out quite well in Germany and Japan. The only rule of engagement should be kill the enemy by any means possible and destroy their capacity and will to fight.

oh yes, the clueless sons and daughters of the taxpayers and voters, in a uniform, serving their country. a real democratic, action army. the military shouldn't be a place just for poor kids trying to have some kind of job and education, the military should be a privilege for all the citizens (actually a requirement to be a citizen). kids need education and diverse life experiences. being someplace and wondering where you are, why your there and why are people shooting at you are wonderful character building exercises and definetly sharpens ones critical thinking abilities. actually the military should charge tuition for that kind of training and adventure.

The parade would be beautiful and symbolic - in honor of the forgotten heroes who "hosed down" the Ferguson fires and riots. Blue Lives Matter.

I gotta admit, I used to favor two or even three year mandatory military service for everyone.

I don't consider that a currently viable option.

First off, the young adults are - imho -far down the rungs of life's ladder compared to those of even 10 or 15 years ago, and those were no great catch. Next thing, is they'd be coddled in the armed servies. The military would need to adapt to the broad cross spectrum ilk of yound adults, whose heads are filled with the rancid sap of the tree of progressive philosophy. Frankly, they wouldn't want to be there, and the military wouldn't want them either. It would be like Soldiergarten, babysitting of the unmotivated and mind numbed hoard. The military would rather herd cats than deal with progressive zombies. And, we gotta talk benefits... that would be the selling point, and the demise of the whole venture.

Its one thing if you GOTTA do it, when you need men to fight, its quite another to institute a full time mandate.

I have no idea of the size of the demographic, but the 17-21 year olds must be in the millions, if not over ten million.

There is no armed foice, except perhaps China's home guard, that our current military cannot defeat. Today we rely on technology more and boots less. Boots are still important... no second guessing that, its just that they're not "as" important in many ways and fields of operation. Used to be, all we had was boots. Then we got horses, wagons, trains, ships, airplanes, telephones, radio, radar, cartridges, repeaters, tanks, satellites, GPS.... you get the idea.

Those called within themselves for duty, are currently adequite (not ideal perhaps but adequate).

I wouldn't support mandatory military service for teens, for the simple reason, I don't want them learning any more about weapons, fighting, and tactics, than they already know.

I think some kind of a youth corps type thing with a military rank structure would make more sense. Let them go build shelters for homeless people, pick up trash off the highways, clean graffiti off of buildings and fences, mow old folk's and abandoned lots lawns, hire them out to folks that need a temporary crew of unskilled laborers, paint govt. property that needs it. Whatever would keep them busy and out of trouble, and learning respect for people. Maybe even have them rebuilding crap we bomb during wars, or send them to help clean up and rebuild after earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados and other disasters here and in other countries. No permanent VA type benefits, but good medical and dental care while they were in the corps and maybe for a few years after. And put them under some Marine D.I. type leaders to learn respect for those in authority. Oh, and if they get a job, let them out early, but if they quit the job within 6 months or a year, bring em back to finish their tour. If this proved to be a profitable venture, make it where they could re-enlist. Also, make sure each one learns some useful skills they can use to get a job once they get out. Pee test the hell out of them and have a strict punishment for dopers.

Make it so the kids can avoid all this if they go to college or tech school and learn a skill, or already have a decent job or business with a future.

What we really need to do is stop welfare and make all welfare recipients join the military to earn their money. Welfare is really what is turning this country into a 3rd world nation.
