I'd like to say thank you to all the brave and fine veterans of this country who have sacrificed to keep us free. There is no amount of gratitude we can bestow apon you to fully show our appreciation for what you have done for all of us. There is no greater country in the world and it is because of what our courageous soldiers have done to maintain our freedom since the birth of this nation.

Thank you!!

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

And may the wretched souls of all those poor soldiers killed by friendly fire, killed by close air support, killed because they didn't have the right equipment or it was shoddy and failed, killed because our Government and its politicians failed them, and who yet to this day claim they were killed by the enemy, giving their all for their country and fellow soldier, somehow find themselves peace.

As school children in Europe, even France in Europe, mark memorialization of fallen American soldiers, who died for them, by tending to graves now nearly a century old, and those from the second World War that followed, cleaning, trimming, placing flowers: Let us not forget to have a cavailier attitude, attend lavish barbeque meals, drink indoxicants, partake in generous sales of merchandice, and generally make merry.

Mary won't you come and walk with me
I've got the time to spare
I'm feeling so trapped inside of me
You can take me most anywhere

We can lay down in the meadow
And if there's a harvest moon
We can fake some wedding vows
And pretend we're bride and groom

Seasons pass to dust, and cover us in ashes
Years all wash away, like tear drops in the rain
All good things must pass, is what the wise men say
But none of that will ever end your pain

Sittin' at the stone that bears my name
In the shade of the sycamore tree
Can you see my face and feel my grace
And remember when you walked with me

Memorial day has never been a holiday to me. It's always been a day of remembrance for the fallen. May they rest in peace.

My great uncle Ens. Virgil Carl Thomas, "MIA" June 14, 1945

My great grandmother had 3 sons serving in WWII. She received a phone call saying a telegram was being delivered. She knew what it meant, but didn't know until they arrived which son it was. His plane was never found.
