I've been studying my CM40, and I just can't figure what that tongue on the trigger bar does. All I see is it moves back and forth, I can see no function. Can someone explain?

It disconnects the trigger/bar so it can't be fired when the slide is out of battery. When the slide is fully forward (in battery) it moves up and then is engaged with the cocking cam and the gun will fire when the trigger is pulled

You can see what it does with the slide off the frame... Push and hold it down then try to pull the trigger, it is now disconnected and can't move the cams.

Ah yes, I see. The cam is disengaged when I hold it down. Thanks.

It also allows the cam to reset so it can catch the striker upon slide return to battery.

Don't let these guys fool you. The tongue on the trigger bar was put there by mischievous engineers just to make curious people wonder what it's there for. It serves no other useful purpose and can be removed using a cut off wheel and a Dremel tool. This action will reduce the weight of the pistol by .1 oz. and gives the gun better balance. Some even claim an increase in accuracy after its removal. Purists like Bawanna some times polish the offending appendage just for practice. :)

I have heard that too much appendage polishing practice can lead to some negative side effects. Any truth to that? :o

I'm not sure if you can ever reach the point of too much appendage polishing. I'll have to ask our resident appendage polishing expert, Jocko.

Not sure what you guys are talking about, but when I think about polishing one of my appendages, there's only one thing I come up with, and it ain't waxing my feet.

I've heard that the warm wax is very relaxing. Don't know for sure.
