View Full Version : New CM9 problem?

Just got my new CM9 yesterday and I'm really liking it. Haven't had a chance to shoot the 200 rd break in yet but I'm really looking forward to it.
There's one thing I noticed out of the box that has been bothering me so I wanted to see if this was normal or not. When I go to close the slide with an empty magazine inserted, the slide stop seems to keep catching on the half moon cut out that's used for take down. It stops the slide about 3/4 of an inch from closing all the way. If I give it a tap, it slams into full battery. This happens pretty consistently. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm not sure that it will really be that problematic in actual use, but it does seem kind of sloppy.

Thanks for the help

Does this happen with a loaded magazine? You aren't supposed to allow the slide to slam shut on an empty chamber. Did you install the slide stop properly?

It doesn't happen on a loaded magazine. The slide stop seems to be installed right. Especially since it happened right of the box, and then continued to happen after the initial cleaning. I don't let it slam shut, I ride the slide forward, and it stops when the slide stop hangs up on the half moon. It only takes a little tap to get it loose. Like I said, I don't think it will really effect normal use since the slide works fine on a full mag and holds open after the last shot. Just didn't know if this was normal

It isn't a normal condition with my CM9, but I have a few thousand rounds through mine. Check yours after the break-in period and contact Kahr service if it's still a problem.

Rack the slide a whole lot- don't be gentle, either. Lock the slide back and leave it that way overnight a couple of times.

Then, go out and shoot it. Don't analyze based on hand operation- the gun is designed to operate under live-fire conditions, with much more force and pressure than you can generate by hand. Your CM9 should be good to go.

If I'm reading this right with an empty mag inserted the tab on the mag follower is pushing up the slide stop so when the last shot is fired the slide locks back. With just 1 round in the mag the follower tab is pushed down by the round. As stated earlier just shoot it & see how it functions.

Am I missing something? I have to drop the empty mag before closing the slide. I think your CM9 is fine Travis.

The follower is pressing the slide stop into the half moon.

You'll find that - if you **** - they suggest you drop and empty mag, as the pistol is designed to be hard to close with an empty magazine inserted. They suggest withdrawing the magazine, or pulling the slide back slightly, holding down the slide stop and releasing the slide.

You'll also find that as things limber up some, the slide will become easier (but perhaps not totally easy) to drop with an empty magazine.

The condition you describe is not a cause for alarm.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll shoot it and report back if there's any problems. This is my first Kahr so I guess I'm just paranoid of spending money and getting a dud.
