View Full Version : No New Guns....
And this time I really, really, really mean it!
I've now gotten to the point where I'm givin' them away.

Just about at that point. I might find something highly interesting, but really... I've given some away too. The only thing on my horizon is a pair of SBR's before they do away with it.

Don't know how many times I've said that. It never lasts - LOL!

Sometimes giving one away is more fun than keeping. My sons and grandson will get them all one day anyway. A small preview doesn't hurt. So far I've given them a nice Browning Buckmark, a Browning BL22, and a Springfield 1911. On the other hand, a few years ago I received a nice Glock 19 as a gift, completely out of the blue, and I can say it made my year. Giving is great! Getting is cool too.

I've decided I could thin the herd of some of mine but dont know which ones. I'm hoping to give some to my kids one day. I still see some I would like but I am getting more selective though.
Who am I kidding, no way I'm done yet....

Have your house burn to the ground when you're out of town on a few days vacation. That be how BIL/first cousin and my sister just got a couple of "never part with" firearms out of me. :)
This first bit was an emergency, no self-respecting rural PA, deer hunter country rednecks should be without guns thing. Come my next road trip back their way in September I plan on thoughtfully reinforcing their armory.

My problem is every time I give one away, I replace it one, two, sometimes three. I've been holding onto a little Savage/Stevens .22 for my grandson who is only 4 years old. Looks like his older sisters will get it with the understanding it is for the three of them. This is a Model 1917 or 1915 Favorite, I can never remember, which is the same model rifle I learned on. My older brother has the original.
Truth be told, I'm not in the market for anything in the near future. I pretty much have my bases covered even with letting a few go. IMHO, not a bad place to be in.

I would like to give some of my handguns to my Grandsons, but they live out of state! I guess that they have to be shipped to a FFL in their home state? A real pain!!

Every few months, I find myself craving the experience of learning a new firearm. Then I look at my checking account balance and remember there's a range with rentals here in town. At least I can get the "new gun" bug out of me with their limited selection.

You don't fool me one bit, 'cause the only time I "give away" a gun is when I want to replace it with something else!

Same here - I've given the following to my sons & grandsons:
Ruger SR9
Kahr PM9
S&W Model 13
S&W Model 36
North American Mini .22lr
Winchester Model 94 (made in 1941)
Browning Safari .30-06
Browning Safari .243
Three Ruger 10/22 carbines
Ruger Mini 14
Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 Ga.
Ruger Service Six .357
Winchester Model 67A
Marlin 336 .30-30
Stevens single shot .22
S&W Model 34
Three H&R Topper shotguns (all 20 Ga.)
But I'm stull buying guns (5 in the past 18 months) and on the lookout for several more.

Could you kick in maybe a small gold star on my work. Been kind of blue of late and it would really cheer me up ya know?
Does feel fine to be correct once in awhile, my batting average is none to good ya know?
I almost added that it should be the executor of the estate of the man who dies with the most toys wins but who cares about them ya know?

Well gee golly, that's a fine gold star Al but danged if I don't feel like a gosh durned show off.
I try to stay low profile ya know, don't want to get tagged a know it all like some folks round these parts on those rare occasions when I get something correct.

Giving guns out of state, and some places within state, does require gun law knowledge and can incur costs and paperwork. Often especially true of handguns. I my/this particular case transport's a non issue as I road trip visit PA once or twice a year these days. Transfer be a different story and, for the record, I did not give bil and sis my guns....they are on long term loan. Permissible without paper/transfer between CC permit holders under PA gun law.
