I've been hearing this story for years and have a few more details. My information said that every officer and airman on the base signed the official report at the time of the incident and the file was then stamped "Top Secret" and filed away. It came to light years later and many of the men involved were contacted. Not one changed one bit of his story and no one had any idea how the event was possible, but evidently they believed it happened! How did the aircraft continue to fly for hours after the fuel was exhausted? How did it find its way hundreds of miles to its homebase with no autopilot and a dead pilot? Why did it come apart in midair over the field for no reason? How was the D-ring pulled to deploy the chute? Yes, it's absolutely impossible, but hundreds of men swore it happened.
