So I got a CW45 that I'm lookin to get rid of cause I want a dble stack 9/.40subcompact.
I was just offered a K40 for trade. Price wise that's a good upgrade for me. But the market has been goin to poly frame pistols and the K40 price has been affected a bit. If I do go for the trade, most likely I will have fun with it for a little bit but maybe try and sell it. I've had my CW45 for sale for a little over a month and have only been low balled for it.
Is it worth the trade? Is the weight difference that noticeable?
K40 24oz
CW45 19.7oz
Any thing I should look at if I look at it?

I've seen steel Kahrs selling for less than $500. I think they are worth more than that but, as you've noted, many prefer polymer. I don't mind the weight at all in a good OWB or IWB holster and belt. I prefer the ones with two loops or slide slots. I don't think you will be able to see much damage on a K40. They wear like iron. A new recoil spring is a good idea though. Mine cycled just fine but I replaced it just because. I was happily surprised that the felt recoil was much softer with the new spring. Good luck.

Personally I wouldn't trade for a 40 myself. I don't find the weight a bad thing but I don't pocket carry, never have and never will.
Your not really gaining anything swapping for a 40 you don't really want even though you might make a bit of money. Money you may or may not be able to recoup after your done playing.
I like a steel gun myself and there are still many who prefer them so no doubt it would sell but could take awhile.
I have a horrible time selling stuff, just never get any offers even at decent prices.

I want to steer away from .45acp
Ammo is just so much more than 9 and .40.
I never shoot the CW45 at all.
I rarely carry it. I prefer my LC9.

What I really want is a Glock 26/27
It would be good for carry, as a house gun, and for fun at the range.

The gun market is fickled plan and simple. As an example, I have a gorgeous stainless PPK (Interarms) that I know I need to sell now if I want top dollar. Summer guns you don't sell in February.
Yes it seems that everyone is in love with plastic, but the gun market (manufacturers) has in fact led us in that direction.
It simply saves the gun companies a bundle. But on the other hand if we were talking about Berettas, everyone who buys a new 92/96FS, they are spending extra money to switch all the plastic on their guns to metal.
And God, let's not talk about plastic guide rods.
I own two K40's and I have no intention of ever selling them. For me, it's a huge benefit that all steel handguns sell for less in the secondary market.
As for Kahr, how can you possibly deny the absolute quality of this masterpiece. No one can sell me on the idea that a plastic frame with metal inserts can possibly compare to my all steel K40. The weight is a non issue for me, it is a testament to the extra money and effort it took to build my gun.
If you buy an all steel Kahr, know that you are going to own the flagship of the Kahr catalog. I would never consider a Glock over a Kahr. I'm still waiting for the introduction of the K45.

Flieger - agree on all points. I just landed an MK40 and love the balance and feel over my PM40. I also have a PPK/S for the same reason. Mine is an S&W version. I believe the Interarms are better but I can't get myself to chunk out the cash for a second. My eye is looking for a T40 or a K40 depending on what I find first.

I have to admit I was drawn to the polymer gun market direction. My first Kahr was a the smallest cousin of your K40 (MK9) and I had it for awhile until the polymer gun was getting so popular that era, so I purchased a polymer version (PM9) and retired my old all metal pistol (good thing I did not sell her and just kept her in the safe). Well now, as I got older and wiser (I don't know able the wiser part) I went back to my MK9 and got rid of the poly pistol. Through out the years I was using my PM9 the polymer railings on the frame was wearing off and almost completely gone (but still very reliable and no performance issue) its not really called the railings because it does not ride on it. The poly rail is only used to guide the slide on the frame. It just bothered me mostly on a cosmetic level. (I might be straying away from the subject so I'll keep it short and simple). Some day, I would like to hand over my treasures to my son or daughter in a pristine condition as possibly can be and having an all metal pistol would certainly establish that, but not until my last day on earth. :)

Beefier and completely controllable, the MK40 is just fantastic. It is essential that you utilize your favorite slip on grip. I prefer the Pachmayr, although the last one I just received for my duplicate 40 seems to be less ridged and thinner than my older ones. Could be that Pachmayr is getting cheap.
Anyway, I realize that so many prefer the 9mm, but it's 40 all the way for me.
I don't want to morph this into a 9mm vs 10mm short (40 S&W). When I first had an opportunity to shoot my first Kahr was one of my Buddies MK9. I later bought the 10mm kurz and with the extra heft, I really didn't notice the massive difference that some claim. I've run through different weights, but my baby enjoys eating 185 grain GS's. Amazing to throw basically a light weight .45 down range and see just how accurate this little wonder gun truly is.
I just wish for both my K40 & MK40, there was readily availabile .357 Sig or what I like to call the 9mm Magnum barrels.
