Other than appearance and barrel type how much trade off is there in the CW9 vs. the 9P with polygonal rifling?
How much accuracy is lost?
What are other significant differences between the two, mechanically.
TIA

From my understanding, there really isn't much difference in accuracy, or anything else between the two series. http://kahrtalk.com/p-cw-series-pistols/2264-cw9-vs-p9.html Here's the one I was looking for http://kahrtalk.com/general-discussion/1709-differences-between-cw-p-series-picture-chart.html

Hey Jlottmc,
Good link thank you.
How about trigger pull quality?

Again, I have only fondled a few of the CW series, from what I've seen you would be hard pressed to tell a difference blindfolded. As for the links no worries, I actually had a bit of time to mine the archives this time. I hope I help with the decision. The one thing I would be a bit concerned with, though it is not a real problem, is the number of extra magazines I would have to buy. The CW's come with only one magazine, and I like at least three. Any other Kahr comes with two. Again not a real problem, just me being cheap again. Either will serve you well, at least as far as I know.

Yeah that is about $30.00 for one mag.
I like the front sight mounting on the P9 better myself.
Not sure the poly barrel is that much more important.

The CW's a fine gun. The poly barrel is a fine thing but you'll also never miss it either. There are more and more aftermarket sights available these days for the CW as well which used to be a down fall to me.
If you prefer the front sight on the P9 then that's a positive check mark in the P9 column.
As jlott said there's not a whole lot of mechanical difference, both pretty nice.

I own a CW9 and have shot it side by side with the P9 and other than asthetics, there ain't no difference. The frames are the same so no difference in triggers. There is no difference in accuracy at normal SD ranges. Dawson Precision supplies any normal sight configuration you need for a CW pistol.
Get a CW and spend the difference of $200.00 on ammo, you won't regret it.

I agree, buy more ammo for the difference in price. Or a holster and extra rounds. My CW9 is an outstanding pistol. The price difference was the original reason to buy the CW series rather than an MK or P series. I shot two different Kahr's before I bought the CW9. After shooting a PM9 and a MK9 I decided I wanted a Kahr for carry. But I decided that a full length grip and longer barrel would make the pistol easer to control for me. This has proven to be true. The CW9 is my favored concealed carry pistol.

I think rkirk pretty well summed it up. Other than the barrel and sight differences, there is one other indicator. You get more scrollwork on the P series slide.
I bought mine to CC, so I don't even care about the sights. I got an excellent price so I've spent the difference on a second magazine, holster and a lot of ammo.
I actually kinda like the asthetics of my CW9. The beveled slide edge sorta sets it apart. Looks more "business-like" to me.

Thanks for all input guys.
I wanted to get a PM45 but I keep reading about issues with them, thus reverting back to the ccw9 or P9.
I am not sure at this exact time but I was told the pm45's (if I have the number right) are running great, but then I heard there are production issues at this time.
soooo, I am after a 9mm
I am tempted for a .40, but that would be a new caliber for me. Same old argument has surfaced sorry.

My most recent Kahr is a PM45. I was in the same place for awhile reading about issues. I nearly bought a G36 instead but I'm very pleased with my PM45. I think things have improved. There still seem to be a few little tweaks needed sometimes but once they're running they are great.
Personally I'd stick with your 9 plan over the 40. While it's a great caliber to me its a little dragon. I had my K40 (all steel) magnaported and I still prefer to shoot my 45. I'm not recoil sensitive either but it has a little bark and buck to it.

Yeah I hear that about .40, I can shoot a .45 no problem. I think I have fired a .40 only once, a sig of some sort.
I don't care for Glocks, grip angle is wrong.
I like the Sig's looks but it cost too much imo.

Can you buy a flat metal baseplate for the CW9 magazine on Kahr website, thereby making the gun even more concealable?

Jlottmc, thanks for the comparison chart earlier in the thread between the CW9 and P9.....very cool.

Let me add that I bought a Hogue slip on grip because the texture on the P series pistols is very abrasive and two spare magazines. Later I purchased a Don Hume JIT belt holster and a Comp-Tac CTAC holster. That has taken up the difference in price for the two pistols. I am still thinking about a pancake holster. Saving up a little money for that purchase. Although the CW9 and accessories cost some serious money for me, I am very happy with my CW9. I have over 500 rounds through the gun and it gets better and better!

No worries gents and of course any ladies reading this, a Kahr is a great gun, and they will make it great if it doesn't get to you that way. If a 9 is your taste, go for it. If you prefer 45, then that too can be had in a great package. I think we hear more about gremlins in this forum, than anywhere else. Kinda the nature of having a Kahr forum. All in all CW or P series you could do worse. At least in my book.
