So, I still have my PM9 & I pocket it daily but I have really wanted a K9 or K40 to occasionally carry IWB.
Because this gun was going to spend most of its life in the safe I also had intentions of polishing it over the winter.
Here in MA we cant buy a K series new (too killy for the democrats) and coming across them isnt common, even tho they are made here.
So, I found a good private sale on a K40 in great shape and jumped on it. When I got there I realized its satin nickel, not stainless. It was in such good shape (9/10) and the price was fair enough that I took it anyway. So now I am trying to decide what to do with it. Maybe post it for trade for K9 and see what happens? I didnt even know Kahr offered nickel. Whats this thing worth? Any thoughts on this nickel finished Kahr?

Looks stainless to me. What makes you think its nickel?

According to kahrs site, they offered nickel plating for a while. it definitely has a different tint than my pm9
(excuse the pocket lint on my pm9)

^^^ nice comparison pic. If you like the finish, I recommend you keep it. I'm sure it's a great shooter. Just don't go polishing off that nickel. It's probably pretty thin.

Bet it would look good with a set of wood grips.

i really like the finish if it was a edc but had hopes of polishing SS and doing some wood for it... think i am going to try to trade of sell it for something ss. A k9 would be perfect, so maybe I can find someone that wants to move up to 40 on a trade.

i suppose i could try polishing the finish under the grip and see what it looks like. i just know nickel can be tricky whereas ss can be repaired with a buffing wheel

I'll bet a box of CrackerJack that you have a stainless steel gun. Nickel finish would be much brighter and shiny than your gun.

Your photo shows the gun in a box. What does the label on the box say about the finish?

If you do not have the original box, contact Kahr with the serial number, and they can tell you what the finish is.

You "totally would polish it", but understand that would significantly reduce the value of the gun. That could make it more difficult to trade for a 9mm, later. But it's your gun, so you're the boss.

Its nickel.

Im not going to polish it because i am afraid of damaging the plating. Its in great shape and k40's arent common here in MA so i am going to try to trade it. I suppose I could sell it to get my $ back but I would prefer another gun. This was going to be my winter project so I am not in a huge rush. Havent even shot it yet and i am afraid Ill wanna keep it if i do. Its probably the most comfortable pistol I've held. Fits my hand like a glove. the k9's should be more common as they were police issued for a long time no?

Here are 2 K9's. You can see that the finish on the electroless nickel plated frame looks much smoother than the stainless steel one.
