Hello everybody,
New member here. Pick up a brand new PM 9 Serial # IB8xxx, manufactured on May 27, 2010.
It has the new swept back. streamlined front slide.
It has NO front sight dot. I do have a white post or bar in the rear sight but nothing in the front sight except a black bar. The bar has a very, very small dot in it with no color, no white and even if it did have white in it, the size is so small that it would not be noticeable. I can't believe this missing front sight when past quality control. Any comments.
I clean and lubed my piece today and intend to put 150+ rounds through it tomorrow or Thursday. Seems smooth, not a heavy trigger pull but as long as an inch to fire.
Mag. is not freely going in and out. Not a problem but it it dragging on something.

Some pictures and perhaps a nice note back to Kahr is probably the first thing to do. Ion or Eion not sure the spelling is the most recent go to guy to get things done. It apparently got by you when you purchased the gun so it could slip by QC at kahr I guess. Shouldn't but it happens.
I'm sure they will take care of it for you, probably just send the slide only back, they might even pay shipping if you ask.
Might be a good idea to go ahead and give it the break in to make sure everything else is right and good.
Check out the prepping your new kahr thread under the tech section. Theres' good info there and also a great lube chart there as well.
Kahrs customer service is really really good, so no worries but a little patience while your new toy makes a trip back east for a few days.
Keep us posted.

They might even surprise you by returning it with night sights. :)

I did contact Kahr and they will install the correct sight. A XD dot night front sight would be a gift from heaven.

Thats easy, have them install those instead. They are a great sight.
If your wife/girlfriend/significant other complains about the charge, tell her it was a gift from heaven. (the truth sometimes works) Just don't look at the angels face. You'll turn to stone.

Wait! D!ck Tracy calling Go Go Gomez, stop the picture. Did you say XD sight or XS sight. I took it as XS Big Dot or Standard dot which would require a rear sight also. That would still be a gift from heaven.
Ok Go Go, let er rip.
Forgot we can't say D!ck here.

Today I shot 145 rounds through my new PM 9 as far as the necessary break in. !00 FMY 124 grain and 45 FMY 115 grains. I EXPERIENCED NO MISFIRES, NO FAIL TO FIRE, NOTHING WRONG. I think that Kahr has got their act fully together.
Yes, something can get through quality control. My front site issue IS small in an actual sense and I could understand the slip through.
Two other items of note and if anyone has a comment I would appreciate them. First is that the magazine seems to drag out and drag in. It seems to happen before that mag release gets involved. It happens even if I hold the mag release hard open when inserting the mag. There is in and out play in the mag when full inserted too. They may be normal, just checking. Second, it seems I was more accurate in the first 50 rounds then the last 50. Why? Am I getting tired, gun changing hit mark, sights changing around.
I also pocked carried all day today to see what it felt like. I had a big piece of cardboard, the kind inside a brand new shirt, in my front pocket to break the gun print up. It still prints through. I late in the day tried my friends pocket carry holster and I cannot get the gun out of the holster, never mind the pocket. Does anyone know a good, non- print through holster that I can get the PM9 out of inside the pocket?
Thanks

I meant an XS front dot sight. I think the big dot is big and would hinder getting the weapon out of a holster. I was thinking that all I really need is the trigicon FRONT night site and just use the existing rear sight. What do you think about this setup?

If your concerned about the size of the big dot, I'd get the standard dot. I have no issues with my big dots on my PM45 but I don't pocket carry and have no issues. I think the the XS rear sight works best with either big or standard dot due to the shallow V but having not actually tried it I can't say it wouldn't work. I've been tempted to try that very thing on one of my Para's.
On your earlier post the movement of the mag (slop if you will) is normal. There's another thread here someplace and I wish I could remember the original poster but he found that the mag release button was draging on the mag. When he removed the button it worked slick. As I recall he did a slight mod and all was good.
As far as the first 50 being more accurate than the last, it certainly could be the tired factor. Seems like most of the bad things we hear about are towards the end of a range session. The grip weakens, a little fatigue, it all contributes.
Some of the others will have to help on the pocket holster. Maybe I can find that mag release thread if the planets are properly aligned.

I think this is the thread I was looking for. The last couple pages address the mags draggin out and Old Lincolns cure.
It's been mentioned also that more trips for the mag in and out alone could help things also. Kind of wear in. Check the mag well for burrs or rough spots.
Lordi, there must be a dozen really good pocket holsters out there, Meco, HBE, Mitch Rosen, and Andrews Cutsom Leather...I waiting on a couple custom pocket holsters as we speak. Heck even the better Galco pocket holsters seem to work fine, stay in the pocket and the pistol comes right out just fine. Just go on line and search till your hearts content, there are many good ones out there.

Quick note on the factory sights white "paint"; some solvents will wipe it right off. I recently picked up an Outers cleaning kit from Bass Pro Shops, and the Nitro Solvent cleaner quickly removed the rear sights white post. Be carefull with what you use as a cleaner, even something advertised as a "gun cleaner" can be harmfull.

My recently acquired MK9 was missing the rear sight post marking and my TP45 had both sights missing their markings. New standard sights were installed on the TP45 and I took finger nail polish to the MK9. By the way, mine were delivered brand new that way.

Second trip to the range with PM-9 and I was shooting 6 to 7 inch's low....That did not happen the first time.
I also had a Skyy CPX-1 which is a 9mm and had no problem. Sights are tight.
I know I'm getting old,66, but one gun is ok the other not.
Any suggestions are grateful.......

I'm 67 and I shoot low more than I ever shoot high, I just had to change my sight picture somewhat and I used POA alot more to. I am faster that way and groups got better even. I do think with kahrs loooong trigger thart lows are going to be more common than highs. I by changing my sight picture havecovered my bad shooting habits enough that the gun is very accurate.
I conside rmy PM9 my 24/7 always carry gun and I practice close 7 yards, no more than 10 and I try to get fast at it. I use only the FBI "Q" target and that is the bowling pin silhouette with no bulls eye. I can with ease put every shot inside that target at 10 yards and under, Mind u they are not 2" groups but in that silhouette area is COM and that is my goal. Get fast close up, get good close up,shoot until empty. the front sight is always your friend, see it perfectly clear, maybe see more of it even and the lows will come up. the back sight will normally be lined up and you didn't even know it.
When I want to hit beer cans at 15 and 20 yards I grab my tuned G19 which is a tack driver, just that it is my home/range gun. not pocketable and a complete different trigger system than kahrs also. Hence for me anyhow much more accurate. but I truly enjoy shooting my PM9 more than any semi I have ever owned and I can only explain it that it is my life saving gun and I want to know it well...
two trips to tghe range with a kahr for me only tells me if the gun is reliable and what I need to do to get more accurate with it. I bet charmin carmens, that more rounds down range and the groups willtighten up alot for you..
