I have several PM series pistols and recently I picked up a used PM for my son. When it came in, the previous owner had moved the front sight all the way to the right to compensate for HIS bad trigger technique. My son fired it and told me it shot way off to the side. When he left for Afganistan, he gave me the gun to readjust the sight back to center.

Typical dad, I forgot about it until a couple of days ago. He recently returned and is coming to visit and pick up his PM9. I adjusted the sight to center (eyeballed it), and since my bench is 25 yards from the target I fired a magazine from that distance. I hade a very nice centered group but it was several inches high. I was shooting the WWB 115 gr.

Moved up to 7 yards and I fired another magazine full of the same ammo. Amazing group!!! Dead center and such a tight group you would have thought I was shooting one of my target guns! Windage and elevation were dead on at 7 yards.

My questions is: Are any of you getting high printing at 25 yards? I understand bullet velocity/recoil time etc. but had never seen this much difference at 25 yards. May have to go measure it but guessing it was around 5 inches high.

This is not a big deal, just curious. I will have to ask my son what ammo he typically carries in it. I am thinking it is 124/127 gr. or maybe even 148.

Everyone has a different experience. Usually you hear, they shoot low.............sounds like you've got those sights dialed in pretty good. These aren't target pistols...............they're self defense pistols. Shooting tight groups at 7 yds. is about all you can expect, unless your an expert, or you practice a lot..........:)

Mine shoots high too, I have installed a Kahr night site in the front, original in the rear, I have to use a " 6 o'clock" hold to get on target at almost any range beyond 20 feet. I've been shooting mostly 124 gr RN.

Thanks guys! That is pretty much what I had figured.

Shooting tight groups at 7 yds. is about all you can expect, unless your an expert, or you practice a lot..........:) Actually, not to have ego, brag or whatever...but I am a past Marksmanship team member from the military...competed all the way to the World Championship matches in the early 80's. Yes, it was many years ago... so I am kind of dating myself here. I have sent more rounds down range then I would ever even attempt to count. I definitely don't shoot as much as I did when Uncle Sam provided me with all the ammo I wanted to shoot daily, but I still consider myself at least an average or above shooter. Danged old age is taking a toll on the eyes though so I can't quite shoot with open sights like I once could. I should have measured that 7 yard group, but it was around an inch and a half or so with a very slight vertical stringing to it. This was firing from the standing, not benchrest, shooting. I was happy with it since I really don't shoot the PM9's much since my carry is either a HK45C or a PM45.

Thanks again!

God bless you and your son for your service.

I carry a PM45 I bought used for a very low price and I'm thrilled with it.

I guess I am a rare one, I shoot my PMJ9 terrible at 10 yards, so I dare not even try 25 yards. Personally 25 yards is not what I bought my PMJ9 for either. It is my handshaking personal defense gun, so at distances of 20 to 25 yards, I can say I have not done it, nor do I want to. the kahr PM's are small guns, and if u can do well at 25 yards, then IMO ur a rarity to, so kudos to you. I have never mastered kahrs smooth but long trigger, so I never blame the gun for where the bullit goes either. It is my 24/7 carry eace to this day but I outhoot my PMJ9 with about any gun I own to, but they just don't ride and carry like my kahr does in my front pocket. Wearing transistions lens sure doesn;t help alot either and to build my confidence I just use BIGGER BULLEYES. Just sayin

people think har acrtually sites ever gun in to dead center. No. they fire ormally one or two magazines for grouping this tell them if the barrel and everything is OK. Every shooter will group different. I beng a lefty will group normally different than a righty, unless were bopth perfect then they shold group the same. I am sure kahr has installed enough sites to know exactly where the sites should sit on the slide, so probably even though they are shooting for groups, the shots are dcamn close to dead center...

Can't give you a whole lot of for sures on the range Kahr sites for. I can say that my PM45 would shoot low 3" and left 2" at 25'. When I qualified for my CCW Permit the Instructor tested us at 12, 9 ,& 6 feet w/12 shots at each range. As long as you were in the "center mass" ring on a silhouette target you were good to go. I our part of the swamp the legal system will likely give you a hard time in court if the shooting was not in your home and happened at over 21 feet. I guess the thinking is that in public and over 21' you would have had a better chance to run or take cover first. Damn liberals!!!
One hint the Instructor did give me is that with a small carry style pistol, a firm two hand grip and "push the weapon firmly into the leading hand as you pull the trigger. He said there is not a lot of grip length on these types of weapons and that method helps prevent a righty from pushing down and left. Something about tending to lift the bottom of the grip as you squeeze tighter while pulling the trigger. It did work wonders for my grouping.

I've put Crimson Trace Laserguards on my three Kahrs (CW380, CM9 & CM40), and have sighted them to where point of aim = point of impact at 7.5 yards. At that range I easily get nice tight groups with both the 380 and the 9. The 40 takes a little more work but can be done as well.
