Hello, I've been looking for a 9mm pistol for CCW and now I also want one for winter CCW and to ensure there's always one gun at home. Ideally they'd have similar operation, grip angles, etc. What do you all think of the following combinations and what would you suggest?

1. Kahr K9 with CZ 75 P-01
2. Kahr K9 with Sig P229
3. Walther PPS with Walther P99
4. Walther PPS with H&K P2000

I'd like to keep the pistol height to 5" or less in all cases...probably over thinking things and should just get whichever two handguns feel best but I like the idea of this on the surface...I defer to the experts on this forum to help guide me... Thanks in advance.

I like #2 but I would change the Sig to the 239 DAO or DAK to keep the triggers closer.

I have similar to #1 in .40: K40 and CZ P07. Works for me.

Pm9 & tp9 !!!

Thats what I was thinking, or the economy (but still high quality version) cm9 and ct9.

I'm surprised someone has nearly the exact setup I'm considering. How do they compare? I don't mind one is DAO and the other is DA as they are both quality firearms and (from what I've heard) very similar in terms of operation, feel, grip angle, etc.

I would change the options too
CW or P9 and CT or TP9

P320sc 9mm and the P320 larger compact or carry for home home /winter needs . Even the smaller sub compact has a thin profile and 12 round mag can take a 15round mag with x grip spacer or 17 round mags

One for home, when you are away with your CCW, I get, but what's the difference between "winter carry" and any other? Why two different guns? All the guns you listed are good choices. Which do you like best? If leaning towards a duty sized pistol, I'd look at the new HK VP9.

Ergos, pointability, felt recoil, etc. are very similar. I shoot both equally well. They are working SD firearms so I keep that in perspective. The biggest difference is the trigger. In range or target shooting I'm sure that could be an issue. But for SD the trigger differences disappear. The manual of arms is more important for me. Therefore, for the CZ, I recommend getting a decocker model: load the chamber, decock and holster. Now your movements are the same for both pistols: draw, point and pull the trigger. For 9mm I recommend a P09. Max capacity (19+1 IIRC), the trigger is smoother than a conventional CZ out of the box, and you can switch between decocker and safety if you find one works better for you. If you intend to carry your hicap occasionally, the P07 is still 15+1 in 9mm. A CZ P07 and a K9 dimensions are very close...CZ slide is just wider.

Thanks

I think the winter ccw would be larger than a summer ccw due to wearing bulkier clothes.

SIG P320 with the differing modular grips and barrel/slide combinations. I have the Full size with the Large grip. Also the subcompact frame slide/barrel on order. Same overall feel since the "firearm" is the swappable Modular control Unit.

Clothing. With no concealment restrictions or considerations I'd always prefer a lw 1911 but that's just not always comfortable or practical....at least not for me. Summer/minimal clothing carry is the only real reason I own a PM9, P238, etc.

Oh this is easy..... M&P Shield 9mm summer - M&P Shield 40 winter - M&P Bodyguard .380 for quick grocery trips out the door, down the jogging path, walking the door etc.

With a few years of daily carry experience, one learns that it is quite feasible to conceal a double-stack service weapon, year round.

Lots of different folks, lots of different answers. Everybody's different so each has a different answer. My answer is why have just two? Or, you could have two of the very same pistol, PM9s for instance. You can't have consistency between choices than that.

Thanks for the replies. I plan on starting off with two then expanding to fill other roles...most likely the next gun will be a shotgun as I grew up working and shooting on a trap range. Might get an 18" barrel and something longer for trap.

Ideally, one of the pistols would be a single stack so I can always have it with me...

Summer carry, Kahr PM9 9mm, Cooks IWB holster, Federal HST 124gr HP ammo.

Winter carry, Beretta PX4 Storm Compact 9mm, AlienGear Tuck 2.0 holster, Federal HST 124gr HP ammo.

... Home defense, Beretta PX4 Storm .45 with InForce pistol light, Fiocchi Extrema 200gr HP ammo.

I am VERY comfortable with this solution for my needs.

Where do the Berettas fit in? I switch it up all the time depending on clothing, where I'm going or just how I feel that particular day. Could be a LCP, CM9, LCR, Glock 26, CW45, S&W49, Kimber 1911 compact, or possibly any number of other full size weapons. I like variety!

I've been using a CM9 during warm weather and a Glock 19 during colder months. The Glock 19 stays close by at night year-round.

Interesting reading these responses. I've never considered changing back and forth between guns. I carry the same gun all the time and rarely change that for new. Went from 1975 to 1978, (quickest change), 1978 to 1991, 1991 to 2007, 2007 to now. I'd be afraid I'd lose proficiency with the gun. Does that enter into your deciding which gun and how often you change?

I have a 96 Inox .40 that I shoot at the range.................I guess I could carry it, but it's a bit large and heavy...........love the gun, just have other carry choices.

I carry my Kahr 90% of the time, but certain situations allow me to carry something else, mostly in the cold months, which I think is a good thing. I shoot all of my firearms, so a change really doesn't throw a bolt into the works. Since I own mostly sa/da firearms, carrying a Kahr, without any other functions but pulling the trigger, makes things pretty simple actually.

Valid point by me. I'm one of those who switches it up depending on mood, attire, etc. But everything in the rotation follows the same manual of arms. I think that's OP's point: he wants a higher cap gun to carry when clothing will cover it...and he wants one similar to his Kahr.

I quite agree. My winter carry is a Beretta PX4 9mm Compact. More rounds for heavier clothed bad guys too.

What's wrong with a Kahr K9 and a Kahr K9? If you prefer something a bit lighter for part of the year make it a K9 and a Kahr CW9.

Or you could opt for a pair of Ruger SP101s with grip panels from Bawanna...

now, someone is speaking my language.

A 1993 vintage SP101 has been my daily carry of choice for the last 5 years (I need the option of snake shot, often), with a "bottom feeder" for general social carry. Even if it's a CW9 carried IWB, there's still normally a J-frame in my left boot top. In the "field", I've always carried some type of wheel gun for the versatility of ammo, and if a .357 won't punch through an attackers winter clothes .... a handgun ain't enough ;)

Because I own both shield's... I was thinking 9mm for summer, & .40 for winter... heavier clothing.. But yes, either caliber would get the job done I'd assume.

But in all honestly, I now carry my CW40 & I just ordered a stainless K9. The shield in either caliber is a great carry gun and you cant go wrong in either caliber. I was carrying my shield 40 most of the time and on other times where I'd just head out real fast I'd just toss my Bodyguard .380 in my pocket.

Without a holster?????????????????????

For IWB, I highly suggest the Alien Gear cloak tuck 2.0 or the new 3.0. For the Bodyguard, that goes in a DeSantis nemesis pocket holster. Winchester Train & Defend 147 gr. JHP for the Shield 9mm, Federal 180 gr. HST's for the 40 shield and 90 gr. Hydra shoks for the Bodyguard .380

I'm also wearing plaid boxer shorts & a T- shirt and listening to "Chase is better than the catch" By Motorhead as I type.. what else do you want to know? ;););)

OK, another opinion. I have 1 to go and 1 to show. Summer carry Kahr CM9, Winter carry or any other time, Kahr MK9 (my show gun with wood grips.

Here is the advantage: (1) They both shoot the same ammo, that's a plus. (2) They both use the same holster. That a money saver. (3) They both have the Identical safety features, the same grip and shoot to the same point of aim, now that is a plus because you don't have to learn where the controls are between the two guns. Really, is it any easier than that?
