I miss my tp40 and would like to carry again at times , maybe full time again .. I had hand surgery a while back and found the tp40 hurt to shoot and hard to pull the trigger smoothly and controlled. I have a carried a heavier sig since . I have loaded some soft loads just to see if I can control the trigger well enough but carry loads still hurt after a couple mags are fired . So has anyone here owned or shot a pistol with Mag-Na-Port to give a review of how well it works , how it changes the recoil . I'm looking to control some of the snap the tp 40 has . Cheaper than buy'n a 9mm !! I have tried lite 135gr, 155gr and 165gr .

I magna ported my K40. I just didn't like the muzzle flip, the recoil wasn't painful to me but the muzzle flip was huge.

I could feel an improvement but not enough to tame the flip enough for carry for me. I went PM45.

They do beautiful work and perhaps with the TP it would be more effective.

The 40 is just a snappy little beast in a compact gun, no way to say if Magna Porting would be enough to help you or not.

They do say that new inexperienced shooters note more improvement than people who shoot a lot. I never could fully understand that statement.

Had a CW40 mag-na-ported thinking it would tame the snap and it did somewhat but nowhere near as much as I had hoped for....Face it, a .40 in a light weight pistol is going to let you know you shot something pretty big no matter what you do, it's just the nature of the beast.....My current carry pistol is a Sig 290rs and at 20 oz it's heavy enough to tame any 9mm round but small enough to pocket carry....I can shoot it all day, no problems with recoil and I have a bad mit too..... If I were you I would bite the bullet and trade for as 9mm and forget getting the TP mag-na-ported because even though it looks cool it just won't give you the soft shooter you need and desire......Just MHO....

Bawanna Let me ask you how you compare shooting the lite weight pm45 to the k40 . That's a surprise that the smaller liter 45 is easier to shot . I only have one 45 and its a 5' 1911 and I'm not that found of it . Works great , it's just not a pistol I like in general . But I reload for it so might as well pay attention to a 45 too . I think my kahr 40 even with underwood ammo is more enjoyable to shoot than the 1911 at least when my hand was in good shape . Might be just me . Guess I could trade it on a tp45 if its that much easier to control . If you can sell me on the finer points of the 45 kahrs . it would be a TP 45. Like the size well

getsome Yea 9mm, , I had a cw9 and gave it to may daughter and still have cm9 but it get shot as a lefty now . I understand as the tp40 is was easier to shoot than the cw9 . Like you I currently enjoy a sig but the p320 compact still in 40 and I'm fine with that . Its wider in the grip and the 26oz weight empty and 13 rounds makes for an easy to shoot pistol with the short reset striker trigger . Not as light a trigger pull as my kahr but far lighter than p290rs too .

Well send me that 1911 your not fond of, that'll take care of that, one less thing to worry about for ya.

The 45 recoils, no mistake about that but it's not a fast obnoxious quick jolt like a 40. Even a 9 which don't hardly recoil at all has a nasty crack when it fires which I'm not fond of.
The flip and recoil on the 45 just aren't as bad to me. The fact that you didn't care for the 1911 even when your paw was in good shape concerns me some. If it's a light weight alloy 1911 maybe but a steel 1911 isn't that brutal in the recoil dept.

I too was surprised, my K40 is of course all steel and heavy, that doesn't bother me as I belt carry, actually I seldom carry it anyhow, where as the PM45 of course is tupperware yet the recoil is less abusive to me. I wear it daily on my ankle with one of those 1911's on my hip.

I would think a TP45 would be down right pleasant to shoot but I'm hesitant to recommend that, you go out and buy one and don't like it and then you'd be hatin on me forever and I'm kind of sensitive to hatin and all ya know?

I thought I had some video shooting that PM45 last year. I found the thread but all I got was stills of it. Got video shooting the Remington 1911. Maybe I just didn't post it????

I'm headed back over Saturday so might get a little shooting in again if my busy schedule allows it. Got like 4 or 5 new babies on their first trip to Fishing vacation so should be interesting. Course my granddaughter is the cutest of the bunch.

Yea , I don't know what it is about the 1911. I use to hunt with a 357 shoot 180gr 1400fps loads in a 8" dw revolver . Not a good one handed load and a 44mag pushed 300 at 1350fps . Recoil fine with them. I have sat down with a new bag full of wolff spring for it and started from scratch , standard hard ball ammo 16lb recoil 23lb and 21 main , try a 17lb and 18 lb recoil and 21 and 18 lb main even a squared off firing pin stop . Just seems to roll over roll back with the push back than my tp40 with those hot rod loads .

Oh I feel so sorry for you having to take a vacation . Don't over do it and hurt your self . With all the little one that's going to be some vacation .

I keep the 1911 . I have a grandson , 10 year old grandson that loves the 1911 and will more than likely load up some softball 200gr 650fps loads and soften it up for him to play with. He wants to shoot some uspsa . I have a pile of 9mm springs to play with tuning it and an old bullseye shooter near by to help guide the tune up .

Enjoy the time off .

I agree with others and think you will not be happy with a ported 40 S&W.
Recommend you bite the bullet and switch to 9mm.

Will say that I've tried 135, 155, 165 and 180 gr in my MK40 Elite.
And really prefer the recoil of subsonic 180s in the Micro gun.
Plus my Elite groups much better with 180 gr ammo.

Personally run Speer GDHP Short Barrel in it for Self Defense.
But wouldn't mind some 180 gr HSTs either...

I had to Mag-na-port my MK40. I thought that being a steel gun it wouldn't kick as much and I really like the .40 caliber. But it still "really" kicked and made shooting more than a box of ammo at the time difficult. But I'm the kind'a guy that wants to shoot at least 200 rounds or its not worth going. I was customizing my Kahr MK40 at the time so I sent it off to mag-na-port. It does reduce muzzle flip but the recoil is still stiff. Though less than even regular box 165s or 180s were before the mag-na-porting. I find it was also still pretty tough on the hand but... was a real relief for my wrist.

But good news. I've tried all sorts of rounds in this little gun and the Glaser Silver (even +Ps) is a real ***** cat. MagSafes are all nearly as soft shooting. The ultra light bullets and stiff charges produce a lot of gas for the ports to use. Now many say penetration... penetration... penetration... And I agree when using conventional bullets but these types of projectiles have a FAR better "real world" one shot stop record than the best conventional hollow points. I've started loading the first 2 or 3 rounds with MagSafes and the rest with Critical Defense... The CDs are NO light load even at 165. They chrono'ed consistently over 1100fps out of my 3" MK40. The Magsafes hovered around 1375fps.

I have a Mag-na-ported P40 and it's like shooting a 9mm with +P, but not as bad as the P9 with Corbon 125-grain +P ammo.

If you want a mild load for the .40, try the Prvi Partizan or PPU 180-gr FMJ. It's like shooting .38 special vs. .357 magnum when compared to "normal" .40 S&W.
PPU makes the same thing with JHP, but I have not tried that.

I'm not looking for mild or even regular 40sw loads . I just as soon sell it than carry regular 40ammo in my tp40.

Guess I'll watch for a ct45 or tp45 to swap pistol with at the range to see how it feels other wise I'll just stay with the sig p320 compact in 40.

Thanks guys .
