How in the world could you stand by and watch a 5 foot 5 inch 125 lb punk with a pocket knife do this and do NOTHING to stop it.....unbelievable!!!

Makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth. Worlds turning into a damn bunch of sheep.

Wish I'd have been there with or without a gun. I'd beat the punk with my purse if I had to.

heh, sheep fight when cornered. I know. This is a sad story indeed. Everyone in that subway would have wanted help if it was them. Just a bunch of chicken sh!t people. One thing when a punk has a gun on u and anutter when it is a knife and he is killing this guy for apparently no reason. course it was in Washington DC so what do u expecty. I wonder if trhe punk was white or black? Spires seems to be to American to be black. I mean when u have a name like Whoopie Goldberg, I give u 5 guess on that race color..

Color or ethneticity got nothing to do with it, it's right or wrong, black and white, no pun intended.
Even with a gun, the right thing to do is stop the punk.
If I was a sheep and you had me cornered I'd fight too, just sayin.

That is truly a sad story. I don't think that is always the way things have been in D.C.

Lets not go there again please.

The question is do we watch crime and inhuman behaviour and not get involved or do we intercede.

If they stealing your car or your TV, get a good description, cops probably already know them and move on.
If somebody is getting hurt, man, woman or child, stop the hurting any way you can. It's the right thing to do.

What would you all do if you were say inside a convenience store and it was being robbed? Would you sit there or try and stop it

Robbery in progress I would stay out of the way and let the police handle it. I am not in law enforcement and am not qualified . My personal decision is: deadly force used by me is only to 1) protect my family and myself from deadly harm 2) prevent an execution of another human being during an OBVIOUS crime.

Bob Owens wrote about the DC stabbing, last week. Here is his view. (http://bearingarms.com/former-intern-gun-control-congressman-stabbed-death-d-c-metro/)

Here's what a Marine did in that situation earlier this week. The outcome is very different than the DC subway incident. Not everyone is a sheep.

I have a pacifist cousin that years ago was driving through a fast food parking lot. He saw a guy beating the crap out of his girlfriend or wife who was already on the ground. He got out of his car, walked over, and coldcocked the guy and the guy hit the ground hard. He told the lady to get in the car and leave. What do you think the chick did? Started yelling at my cousin asking him why he did it. He threw his hands up in the air and left.

I said all that to say I was proud of him. I hope I would have been able to find something to bash the guy in the head with. That kind of thing I hate.

Long as it stays a robbery I'm an innocent, please don't kill my bystander. If he threatens or acts like he's gonna cut or shoot, then I'm in anyway I can. They shoot the clerk, who knows who's next. And the clerk might be your son or daughter, neighbor etc.

^^^ exactly. The line is drawn between stuff and life. When stuff is at risk I am a witness. If life is at stake then it's time to act.

Sort of ironic. I just started a thread on another forum where a friend got involved in an altercation she came upon. When she asked, I told her I would call 911 and be the best witness I could be. She was appalled and said I have a duty to protect. Sorry, but I don't.

My feelings are much like kWH. I would have not gotten involved with what my friend encountered because I did not see the start. I do not want to end up on the wrong side. However, the incident described in this thread seems different. It seems clear that the attack was unprovoked and I would hope I would have the piece of mind to intervene.

In Texas, most of us would get involved. We do not tolerate punks, hoods, or criminals.

Look at our death penalties here. Commit murder in Texas and die.

....2) prevent an execution of another human being during an OBVIOUS crime.

^^^ This of course. Yet there will always be some level of uncertainty: whether or not you are doing the right thing or if you will even prevail? That uncertainty can be crippling or cause life-threatening hesitation. So it's good for us to talk these things through and mentally prepare. Good thread.

Criminals are getting dumber and dumber. That former Marine is a bad ass...someone we should all aspire to be more like.
