Hey guys,
I have wanted a Kahr for a long time and I finally picked up one this morning. I bought a NIB CW9 with an extra magazine for $490 OTD. I'm really looking forward to getting to the range Friday to break it in. I will follow the preparation and lube instructions before I hit the range. I hope to learn a lot here.
Do you guys find your CW's prefer grease or oil for lube?
Thanks guys

Welcome. I'm sure your gonna get a mixture of oil and grease answers. I use a combination of both and I'm personally a believer that you can't over lube a Kahr. Long as it's slippery it's all good.
In addition to the proper prep thread theres also an excellent lube chart in the tech section that I believe Cappy contributed. Good stuff on where to make the oil count.
Lot of help here if you need it, all you gotta do is ask.

Welcome and congrats on your new pistol. My first Kahr two years ago was a CW9 also, and I added a CW45, and then traded that for a PM45. Both have run for 600 + rounds w/o one problem. I started a switch from 9mm to 45 last year, and have been selling my 9's, but I won't part with the CW9, P225 or S&W 9mm.
I'm old school about lubing a pistol. If it slides, I use grease - if it rotates, I use oil. I'm not locked into brands, but lately I've been using BC Universal Gun Grease and MilTec 1. I like the slick feel of MilTec even after it's been wiped down. I tend to run Kahrs and SIG's a bit wet, especially at the start, and it has worked for me.
I agree with you, I tend to run mine a bit on the wet side especially for a new tight pistol ...quote: "It make for a more harmonious outcome".

T-bone congrats on teh new gun! I am very pleased with my CW9 and rely on it as my daily carry almost every single day. I mostly use oils I am not sure why but I do. The CW9 is a fine weapon, practice with it and get the feel of shooting it down. Smiles will surely follow.

I have a CW9 and I too have found it to be absolutely flawless from day 1....
I use LCP on mine and it seems to like it.
I have shot all types of ammo from ball to +P and the ammo that it likes the best is
Defensive Research Tech. (DRT) The round is a 85gr JHP +P and it feeds perfect, even with the shorter bullet. It prints about 1" high at 7 yds but that is to be expected with the lighter bullet.
I really think that you will come to trust your pistol completely in a short period of time.

I love my CW9. Like recoilguy, I use oil on mine, but that was before I found the oil/grease/lube resources on here, so I think I might try an oil/grease combo the next time I clean my gun. I don't think you can go wrong either way with Kahrs though.

lots of good lubes on the market, if one pleases u, just stick with it, especially if our weapon is reliable with what your using, why muddy up the waters..

Well I just got back from the range!!
I followed the prep guide and lube chart last night. I shot 200 WWB FMJ rounds in about an hour. I heated the little gun up but it gave me a perfect performance. I then tested some different brands of defensive ammo, about another 50 rounds total, without any problems.
I will post a full range report with pics later.
I LOVE my new CW9!!!
I can't believe I waited so long to pick one of these up!

Tbone, me to! I tried everything reasonable! Ruger P97, P95, Glock 23, 17, 26, XD9, XD9sc, Charles Daly Hi-Power, Browning Hi-Power! As these larger thicker pistols became more difficult for me to carry concealed, I decided to give Kahr a try. I think the double action trigger is what held me off. I shot several Kahrs.
The price of the CW9, made me decide to take a chance. That is what I carry, the CW9. Great pistol. I talked a friend into buying a PM9. He is thrilled. I don't know what made me wait so long to try the Kahr! Sorry about going on and on!
So Tbone congratulations on the new CW9. Shoot safe and enjoy!
