I don't hear a lot of conversations concerning the blck diamond finish? I've never considered it and I'm not sure why.
For those of you who have them, how do you compare it to the standard stainless?
Is it something I've just stupidly overlooked?
Comared to silvery stainlesa....its black. Does wear reasonably well, but it will eventually get some wear marks.

Here's a link to some threads that reference Black Diamond. Some are just For Sale listings, but several are for discussions specifically related to the Black Diamond finish.

I don't have the black diamond, but I do have the birdsong finish which I believe is similar....................................it helps with any type of moisture problems ie. rusting or pitting, cuts any glare, and is designed to make your slide move easier, with a slippery finish. I have been carrying mine for over 4+ years, and the only visible wear is by the muzzle, on the bottom where it rubs in two small areas. It's definitely not a forever finish, but I like it as far as the glare issue, and it cleans up a bit easier. You don't need a lot of lube either.....................

I have it on two pistols, I like it. I mostly use leather holsters, and so far the finish has held up well. I don't like shiny surfaces on my carry pistols, so I spent the extra $$ for the DLC.

I have it on one pistol. It is a flat black finish. Mine shows wear at the muzzle mainly.
The way I carry my pistols, I don't think it matters. They never show anyway. The stainless finish on Kahrs is a matte finish, although it would show more glare than the black.
My preference is for the stainless. The flat black just always looks dirty to me. That is purely my taste. I suppose many might find it an advantage that the black pistol looks the same whether dirty or clean.
I have it. I like it. PM9. Functionally no better/no worse than Kahr's stainless finish.

Two of my three Kahr pistols have the BD finish. While it is fairly durable, if you ever get a scratch on the slide, you cannot touch it up like you could do with a regular blue finish.
I personally like a black/blue slide on a black frame, I don't mind a stainless silver slide if the frame is also stainless steel.
Matte stainless vs DLC vs K-Kote.... for my own purposes, if its black, it works! I don't mind the stainless finish, but to remain hidden in my pocket as possible, and to allow for the occasional unintended bit of metal showing, I prefer it to be black, and not draw attention as being a metal object in my pocket.
I like my carry guns black 'cause my cell phone is silver.

I prefer the DLC, but bought a used Mag-na-ported P40 and a new P380 that were stainless... only choice for the latter at the time. I like those, too, but would prefer the flat black finish.
I just realized that my EDC is the P40 and second is the P380, both stainless slides.

My T9 only came in matte stainless, but if there would have been a DLC version, I would have bought it. I prefer a dark finish on my steel, but the SS is still very nice. The stainless probably looks better with the wood grip panels that are the only option at this time for the T9, but if I had the option, it would have a DLC coating with black rubber grips.
I dunno.... DLC finish with say... a walnut/olive/black laminate.... might be tasty

The Black Diamond finish is tough but if you carry regularly it will start to get scratched up especially if you use an all Kydex holster. I think if you are concerned about how the pistol will look after years in a holster, a stainless slide might show less wear. I honestly do not care about the wear since it is always concealed anyway.

Carrying black will give you that split second advantage. When your being robbed and the crook asks for your wallet and he/she catches a glimpse of chrome/metal when you come around with the gun, your done. Black will give you that little extra time to complete your draw and hopefully put one between his/her eyes.

The muzzle flash coming from the 180gr 10mm short (.40 S&W) might also give up the goods. Ah, just having some fun.
The black silhouette might very well give you a few extra moments.

Yeah, but I want his eyes to see the stainless flash right before he sees the muzzle flash. :faint2::faint2:
