Air show

Heading out to the air show on the shores of Lake Michigan..........................the Thunderbirds are there...........................I love the unexpected low fly over, and the looks on peoples faces is priceless. I think some of them may soil their pants:p

Always a great time. Did the show have an F22 demo team? Those are great planes to see fly. Vectored thrust and all.

If you ever get to see the F-22 show, don't miss it. We were at the factory many years ago when an F-22 was brought in for a photo shoot with the F-35s. The pilot got the grand tour and was treated like royalty. Some of my Buddies came into our hanger and told me to drop what I was doing and "come watch this".

Seems the pilot told the flight line guys that he would give a "departure show" on take off. He sat at the end of the runway and ran the throttles up to AB against the brake. When he let go the brakes he rolled a short distance, pop up to about 50 ft and brought up the gear. In a barely perceptible climb he roared over the runway till he came to "show center".
Then that huge fighter flipped gravity the bird, swiveled the engine nozzles and made an absolute vertical climb out, accelerating the whole way. After a few moments the pilot rolled out and headed west, to tag a tanker over New Mexico.

I worked as a consultant for NASA at the Dryden Flight Research Center.
Their SR 71 would regularly perform slow fly overs.
But when the aircraft was retired to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base we got a special show.
The SR 71 flew slowly over the NASA facility.
Then lit the afterburners and disappeared in seconds.
OMG that thing is fast.
Developed in the 60s, I think it may still hold some speed records today.

Those are some great pics Barth! The Blue Angels were at my local airshow this year for the first time in over 10 years, but I had to work and couldn't go. I did get to watch some of the practice and that was awesome to see again. I have yet to see an F-22 up close or in flight, but its certainly on my bucket list. To see an SR-71 in flight would be amazing!! Too bad they've been retired, but I look at one every day... I have a 1/72 scale model sitting on my desk at work.
