I have no loaded guns in or about the house other than my daily carry guns. When I'm home the 1911 usually sets on top of my dresser, the PM45 usually stays on my ankle. It then gets placed on the dresser next to the 1911 when I go to bed if I remember to take it off.
I have several in my man cave that have magazines near by but nothing loaded.
Of course I do. Thinking about it, mebbe ten. Located handy wherever for possible immediate use or for when I get dressed to leave the house.

Yea, keeping it in the dresser drawer is new, they never would have thought of that. Stuffed beside the cushion in my recliner is another good one. The one in my pocket, when they pick up my shorts to get my wallet, they will probably wonder what's so heavy in my front pocket. Problem is if I'm not in them, they have to get to them, and that's when the other two would come into play and stop their progress.

All of my polymer Kahrs... don't have any all-metal ones now... are "ready" with one in the tube, as are several of my Glocks. No kids or visiting morons and Wifey is trained and okay with loaded weapons handy. My P380 stays on my hip, IWB, in case I'm moving around or go outside. I don't have to stop and put on a pistol.
I don't want to be unprepared for 4-legged or 2-legged threats. Several pistols are stored in my safe and my G30S is loaded with the LaserLyte training cartridge for practice. I do treat it as loaded until I visually inspect the chamber each time I want to practice with it, though. I have a practice of keeping LOADED guns in a holster to cover the trigger when I don't have them on me.
Spare mags are usually with the pistols, too, as are strong tactical-type flashlights.

Having professional working knowledge of how burglars function in over 99% of the cases they are in and out in short order. Meaning they want to spend as little time as possible in the residence and fail to adequately search. Thank goodness for that. Oh and the painfully loud alarm helps skedaddle them on down the road too.

Not really. We have them at home only because home is where I keep them. Mags are loaded but chambers are not. Double check every time I touch them for any reason.

I thought you understood that there IS a difference between Kahrtalk and FB. I agree that to post your vacation plans on FB is unwise but to compare FB and KT as somehow equal is misinformed at best.
JohnR

Yes, there's a big difference. On Kahrtalk you can't set it so only your friends see your posts. They can read Kahrtalk in China. But they don't have our name or address of course; that's a much deeper and more difficult hack. ;)
My G19 is either in it's holster on my hip, or within reach when I'm lounging/sleeping. Everything else is locked in the safe where it belongs.

On a somewhat side not, we had the grandkids out earlier this summer so I made sure to put anything away that they shouldn't see, let alone get there hands on. I forgot the 870 tucked away on my side of the bed, probably because it is out of sight and I didn't plan on them being in there.
However, one evening my wife had all the kids in our bedroom watching a movie with her. Then I happened to notice after some time that she was sitting next to me in the front room and the kids were still in our bedroom. THAT is when I remembered the shotty was not put away. I had her call the kids out to the front room while I went and put it in the safe.
A couple of days later she had the kids in our bedroom yet again when all three came out, quite alarmed I might add, to let me know that my "rifle" was missing! I have to congratulate their parents for teaching them not to play with any firearms they may come across. And, yes, their parents have a few firearms and both have their carry permits, so the kids weren't curious, just concerned that my shotty was no longer where it had been.
That taught me a lesson right there, however. We don't have a lot of visitors to begin with, and very seldom any kids. I'll be more careful in the future.

I'm now down just to one firearm ... a 60's era RG14 .22 cal snubby ... but it's loaded with the same bullets my Dad put in it in 1973 when he bought it for my Mom to have in her purse for the Friday "bank run" for the dentist she worked for. It's either in my pocket every day, rain, sleet, snow or Texas sweat, or on the night stand at night. The rust (most of it) wipes off pretty well with an oily shop rag, but I can't seem to open up the cylinder thingie anymore. I'm wondering if it will still fire, since it's never gone off by itself in over 40 years since Dad bought it third hand. (you can tell it's third hand by all the initials scratched ... I mean "engraved" on it). I'm wondering if I need to take it to a Jones .... or Smith ... or whoever, to have it evaluated. I would hate to think I had to use a bat now as my right shoulder just wouldn't feel good after a bat swing. Maybe it's time to trade the RG for a High Point anyway, for more extreme firepower. So much to think about when it comes to self defense. Maybe trade for a double barrel shotgun, but it wouldn't fit in my pocket ... and it would take a bigger oily shop rag and more time to wipe off every month or two.
Now I'm worried and have a headache .... I'm going to bed.

Your fine. Just shoot the fokker like you stole it. That rust and scratching, that's character, shows you know your weapon.

I just found out it won't shoot when I tried it outside a few minutes ago. Since I can't get the bullet holder thingie to open up, I guess it's rusted shut now. I'm thinking to stick it in a bucket of used motor oil from my riding mower and see if that will free it up. I just hope that won't hurt the bullets because I've been reading lately that .22 bullets are pretty hard to find as well as expensive.
I guess I should have kept that nice shiny Clerke revolver I had 30 years ago.
jd
Brings back memories. My Dad also carried? a vintage RG22. It is the basement now,but not rusted shut. I agree the .22 bullets are probably worth more than the firearm. I need to reexamine his "Owls Head" ( Iver Johnson) .38 S&W ,not .38 Spl., revolver also. All are preserved with Kroil oil rags.

That does it .... Monday morning I'm taking my RG14 to the local pawn shop and see if I can find a nice, used, shiny Lorcin to trade for. Y'all won't be laughing at me then! Or on second thought, I may just keep it so I'll be able to say I own "guns" instead of just "a gun".
oh... and I did get the turning bullet holder thingie to open up. It did take a big screw driver and a bit of effort, but the motor oil seemed to work. The bullets had to be pounded out with a 20 penny tail, head first in the bullet tunnels, but they came out. There is a kinda gray/green mold stuff in the bullet tunnels, and it's kinda rough feeling when I tried to scratch it out with the nail head. Any help would be appreciated. If I trade it, I want it to look good, and if I decide to keep it I want to be sure it's in top working condition. My neighbor found a partial box of Imperial brand 22 bullets in an old tackle box he had misplaced in his old storage building (he was in the process of clearing the brush and tearing down the old rotten building). Said they probably hadn't been there much more than 30 years, and even though the lid on the tool box had a few rust holes, the little bit of water in the bottom where the bullets were probably wouldn't hurt them. He really don't know much about gun stuff and the old tackle box had belonged to his Dad since the 60's.
Sorry for all the personal stuff, but all this talk about having plenty of hide out guns got me to seriously consider looking at my own needs. And all you guys that had the boating accidents have my sympathy. Life is tough, and we only get one chance.... which is why I'm taking action myself.

I think them Imperials alone will solve most of your issues. Carry that big screwdriver and a couple spare nails around in case you need a fast reload and you'll be fine.
Them Lorcins are terribly overated. Most folks what have those live on the other side of the tracks from me, they are the stuff guys like us can only dream about, don't torture yourself.
Load them Imperials and just get on with your life.

Thanks B
There were 10 of them in the old crusty box but they were the Long version. I hope they will still fit in that short RG. I was able to get most of the green mold off of them with some 120 grt sandpaper. Since there were 10 of them I'll have enough to drive to the range and get some practice in, then still have enough left over to load the gun for just in case I ever need it.
I know if Mr. Muggsy were here to give advice he would tell me exactly what to do with my RG :D. He always seems to have ... an answer.
I'm going out on a limb here ......
Mr. Muggsy, if your lookin' in ..... what should I do about this di-lemma. Stick with the RG or go into debt with a like new Lorcin?

of the house including both baths. And no, I don't live in a high risk area but I do live in a very secluded area that is only 3 miles from a prison known to have
escapes. Blood hounds have trailed escapees right thru my yard within touching distance of my house. Due to the last time when the State Police searched my home
(with my permission) for a dangerous felon escapee (we were away at the time and the State was waiting for us when we arrived home. Wanted to search my home
before we entered to be sure it was safe) I now have ADT, security cameras, motion sensor alarms and lights all around my home. Call me paranoid if you want, my
favorite axiom is that I'd rather have a lot and never need it than to not have or only have one of and not have it when and where I need it.

Piece of junk but it worked. I have one my sons friend sent me to see if I could fix, he's got a 200 dollar cowboy belt holster combo and a 12 dollar gun. I took it apart but it ain't worth trying to find parts. Junk.

Many times from the front porch. Usually the American Flag on one side and the Come and Take it Flag on the other.
I haven't got my flag pole started yet.
I figure when I get that I'll do three, The American Flag, the Confederate Flag and Come and Take It.
That ought to stir up the neighborhood real good. Got a bunch of tree huggers on the hill these days that drive me crazy, it'll be a fine pay back.
