I bought my PM9 in 2005 along with two extra magazines. One of my six round mags was not fully raising the slide stop on empty, so I bought new six and seven round magazine springs. Tonight I got out the tape measure and made a survey:
The new six round magazine spring was 7-3/16" long and had 13 coils.
The suspect six round magazine spring was 5-5/8" long.
The other six round magazine spring was 6" long. This one was functioning normally.
The new seven round magazine spring was 7-7/8" long and had 15 coils.
One seven round magazine spring was 6-5/8" long and the other was 6-1/4" long. Both were functioning normally.
I replaced the two shortest springs and will replace the other two when parts arrive, as this is my primary carry weapon.
I thought I would give you folks an account of ten years of spring wear.

I bought Wolff +5% springs and replaced all of mine In April 2010. I got my PM9 in January 2010 used, and it was built around April 2006. I still have the original springs and they are the same length and number of coils as the newer ones... about 5 3/4" long with 13 coils... counted on the side opposite the free ends.
The eight-round springs are really long... about twice the length of the tube.

I can tellu this wyn. I recently had some slide stop issues with my PM9 and so I replaced the magazine spring and all was perfect again. Not sure how long my spring wa sin but I replaced it with the same 55 wolffs spring that I had in it and there was a big big different in the length of the two spring.s My old spring had take a really bad preset and it just was not moving that follower up fast enough to lock the slide open. All is well now....

I don't understand the apparent contradiction in posts #1 and #2, above.
I just got a new PM9 with three magazines. Two 6-rd, and one 7-rd. I can check the mag spring lengths if you think it might be of benefit to this thread.

Both the old original and "newer" Wolff springs have taken a set and are the same length. They WERE longer until having been installed for a long time. I had no unused springs to compare them with, but just wanted to report my used springs length after taking sets. They are designed to be longer until they take a set with use. Then they perform as intended until they weaken after a LONG period of use... decade+?? Replace as needed if they no longer perform as needed... with reliable feeding and slide lock back.

Now I understand you, thanks!
Any rules of thumb as to when recoil springs and magazine springs should be replaced?
More interested in performance indicators than estimated time parameters for replacement, but perhaps Kahr recommends replacement after so many rounds, so please respond to that also.
Actually, you have answered it, at least partially, above.
And what are the various opinions re the +5% springs offered by Wolff? As to the extra power mag springs, will that more adequately provide for proper feeding and locking up of slide stop after last round?
Thanks in advance.
