View Full Version : CW 380 trigger pin walking out
Hi, everyone,
FNG here with a request for help:
The trigger pin in my CW 380 with ~400 rds of target ammo on it is walking out - how do I go about defeating this?
TIA! : )

Contact Kahr and arrange for it to be sent in for warranty repair.
It's likely a faulty frame that isn't allowing the pivot pin to seat properly.
Took two trips for Kahr to figure that out with mine.
Enjoy the trip.

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. Followed the DIY and now more issues :)

What other issues did it cause?

No other issue once I modded the pin. It stopped walking out

I see what he means, Alfonse - thanks - the tip of my trigger hinge pin doesn't quite reach the left edge of the frame, and on the right it appears to be slightly flared out. This fault in design and/or manufacturing took surprisingly many rounds (400) to manifest itself!
Overall, though, I really like this gun - the most shootable, as far as accuracy and "comfort", from the 3 most popular "true" pocket pistols - LCP and P3 AT being the other 2 IMO.
CW 380 owes this mostly to the very good trigger and heavy recoil spring, plus the sights, I guess. I bought all 3 and practiced with and carried each one for a while, and settled on the CW 380. The best carry gun is the one you WILL carry...AND practice with : ), and CW 380, while not quite "a pleasure to shoot", is not too snappy and definitely less so than the Ruger and the Kel Tec - JMO of course.
One thing that concerns me from the long term use perspective is the metal slide riding on plastic rails that are not reinforced by anything - the P3 AT and it's knock-off LCP have those metal "inserts". Shortly after I started shooting it, despite cleaning and lubing the rails one side got chewed up a tiny little bit, but it's not getting worse, so I'll just keep watching it...

The CW380 has metal inserts as well.
The metal inserts in the forward/lower portion of the frame are not really part of the rail; they ride in the grooves in the slide on both sides of the guide rod. The top rail - the actual rail - is all plastic... I guess you could say it's a 2-part rail :)

You don't have metal inserts in the rail at the back of the frame?

The plastic rails in the Kahr are there just to help you reassemble the slide to the frame. You can cut them off and the gun will still operate.

There is a one-piece metal rail insert in the front part of the frame and there are two metal mini-rails at the top rear and forward of the very back of the frame. The slide is entirely supported by these metal rails and the front one is really substantial... a one-piece affair mostly embedded out of sight.
Here's a kaboom picture - not mine! that exposed the front rail assembly:

And here is a picture from the Kahr patent.pdf with the two sets of steel rails pictured above the frame:

And, as pointed out by skyflydive in the next post, I do believe that #118 shows the location of the notch or "chip" from the rail used in manufacturing the rails.

Hey look! #118 shows where the notch in the rail is.
Couldn't resist...

would be a real b!tch to get the slide back on though, but ur basically right. Thats why when we read of a post of slivers showng up on the polymer rails, it is just the high spots on those polymer rails beng worn down by thge slide action. They do give the frame some strength though in that area and with the slide on the gun, there is no way that frame area can project outward either, as the slide does hold the frame into correct position also. Just sayin

You mean THOSE 2 itty-bitty things - I wasn't about to "count" THEM! Lol - that one is on me:)
Great stuff from Wynn, too - I didn't realize the "forward rail" so substantial! This makes me feel even better about this pistol - thanks, everyone.

Did u ever find out what to do with the trigger pin walking out? My P380 is doing that. I bought a new pin, but haven't tried putting it in yet.

What did you use to file off the lip at the end of the pin? A grinding wheel?

All Kahr have steel rails both front and back. The plastic rails serve on as an aid for reassembly of the gun. That notch in the left front rail is supposed to be there.

I used the belt sander at work. Took me all of 5 seconds.

BTW, I never thanked you for the suggestion. I took it to my gunsmith, who milled the end of the pin down (not completely off) and it fit perfectly. Have about 200 more rounds through it with no walk-out of the pin. THANKS !
