View Full Version : PM9 and accurate caliper request!
The slide stop on my latest PM9 - the one that replaced the stolen one - is giving me fits of angst.
Whilst firing, it performs splendidly .
However, during the act of hand racking... I've found the nub that projects forth from the right side of the receiver appears to be subject to inadvertant pressing. The result being that the slide stop walks leftward, and the slide then locks, as the engaging surface on the slide stop interacts with the corresponding cut in the slide.
I've already thinned mine.
I cannot say how long the pin was to begin with.
Currently, its 1.086 inches and seems to stick out more than I remember the slide stop on my old PM9j or on either of my PM45's.
I think I may have removed a good .015 or so already!
Can someone please, have mercy, and use an accurate caliper to meaure the total length of the pin from face of slide stop lever to its opposite side?
Many thanks in advance!

Who would STEAL a Kahr slide stop? That stopped the thread for me right there.
Oh, must've been a stolen PM9 gun....sorry...ggggeeeessshhhh...

Might be talking about a stolen PM9, and the current slide stop on his replacement needs fixin maybe?

I believe the PM9 and CM9 slide stops are interchangeable.
My CM9 slide stop pin is 1.1205, using my reloading calipers. (Center of the pin to the flat side)
Yikes... that seems wide. I was thinking about taking another .020ish off mine, so it sticks out just barely past the edge of the slide on the right side.
Hey I got my grammar lesson's from "The Jocko Instutit of Comminucation", so I'm very happy to be a good comminucator.

A long time ago someone who had excellent writing skills said to me: "Ask yourself 'what is it that I want to say?' Then, when you know what it is that you want to say, you are more likely to write it accurately and without ambiguity".
Let me ask again then...
Just how long is the PM9's slide stop pin supposed to be?
In decimal inches please, to the nearest .002 is fine...!~

My CM9 is-
1.114" OAL (outside of lever to tip of pin) ( I believe the CM lever is a little thicker then the PM's)
So maybe these will help more.
.975" Pin only length (from inside surface of lever to tip of pin)
.075" Amount of pin protrusion from frame on right side, assembled
I had to increase the spring pressure on my CM9 slide stop when it was new to stop the pin from walking out.

The slide stop spring also serves to hold the slide stop in place. The spring wire fits into the groove in the slide stop. The O.A.L. of the slide stop shouldn't have any bearing on pin retention. I'd look into adjusting the slide stop spring. Caution the screw that retains the slide stop spring threads into polymer. Do not over tighten.
Yah Muggs... I know. I'm getting a good positive click when the slide stop goes home, its just that somehow, when racking, if I'm not careful, my fingers hit the other side of the pin, and it's just enough to get the slight caught up.
If I'm careful... then I avoid the pin and it racks ok. And it stays put during shooting.

He'll have to confirm but didn't Jocko actually recess his pin so it isn't even flush?
I'm with Muggsy, I don't see whey you couldn't make it near flush. I'd leave just enough to be able to push with a screwdriver handle or something for disassembly. I assume Jocko has to use a punch or something.

Wow, be careful, Colonel. Those nipples are supposed to protrude other side and facilitate lock-up and that gun does not fall apart.
But what do I know? I'm a relative newbie compared to y'all!
Ok, here's some comparison:
PM9 - protrusion past frame about .063
PM9 - protrusion past slide about .048
PM45 - protrusion past frame about .040
PM45 - protrusion past slide about .015
PM9 - WOA about 1.086
PM45 - WOA about 1.166
PM9 - Frame width at pin hole .890
PM45 - Frame width at pin hole .966
Dunno exactly what to make of those numbers.
I was wondering... if they got the wrong pin on the PM9's slide stop, but since others are longer than mine.... probably not.
Compared slide stop springs PM9 vs PM45... the PM45 is much looser, yet works perfectly.
I guess I'll just shorten the pin a little more and be done with it.

Can't see anything wrong with grinding it down flush with the right side. Only time you would need it was to remove it and folks have been removing it from Keltecs for a while and that one doesn't even reach the other side. Question now is how flat can we grind down the lever on the left side?

I ground the heck out of my PM45 lever, Wynn accused me of taking away it's manhood. I'll have to find a picture.
CJB, maybe we should remove the offending finger rather than butcher the pin any further.
Oh that's probably a stupid idea, what with the mess and all.

^^^^^ Indeed, that was an amusing post!

Well Colonel, I might be half obliged to agree if it was one finger, but its probably more like the three bigguns on one hand....dunno but if that might cramp my er... private moments, ya know?

Since I find it much faster and easier to chamber a round using the slide stop I seldom rack the slide thus negating the problem. You must be one ham handed S.O.B., CJB. :)

I don't know if Jocko shortened his slide stop pin, but I heard that he underwent deductodicktomy surgery to prevent printing when he carries AIWB.

My CM9 pin is 1.112 from the outside of the lever to the end of the pin. Installed it protrudes .078" from the right side which makes it easy to push out with my thumb now that I've got 1000 rounds or so through it.
I can just barely push the pin out of my P380 now too but sometimes have to use the mag base plate as a pusher.

I've heard that size doesn't matter. It's how you use it. :)
