After much thoughtful consideration (and a great deal of amazing help form this community) I finally landed on a Kahr P-9 vs a CW9 because I really thought I wanted front and rear night sights. I found a great deal on a new Blem with night sights for $500. by the time I got the cw-9 and bought the night sights and had them installed I was so close to this price I just decided to get the P9.
Tommorow the P9 lands at the FFL so I will take possession of it in the next day or two. Is there any break in tips anyone would like to share? I think I read out here that the first 200 rounds should just be brass encased ball ammunition. Are there some that the gun tends to like more than others. Any reasonably priced but still recommended types perhaps? particular cleaning and lubricating products that the gun likes/dislikes.
Just thought I'd thank all who helped me with this out there and ask if there is any wisdom you can pass to an excited new Kahr owner. I'm looking forward to the break in as I will enjoy making myself take time to do some range work and get back into shape, its like a chance to court the gun and get to know it before I start carrying it.
At some point I'm going to need a few recommendations for a concealment holster at some point.
thanks again

Welcome to the forum. I have a P9 among others. It was my main carry for a while but I carry my Mag-na-ported P40 most of the time when I go out. I wear the P380 around the house.
Check out the New Member Area. Everything you need is there... lots of "stickies" with helpful info.
Go to Kahr.com for all kinds of info and FAQ's, too.
Get a jump on your new pistol by reading the manual there, too. You can download a pdf file of that.
kahrmanual.pdf (application/pdf Object) (http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf)
Here's my old welcome blurb:
Welcome to the Kahrtalk forum supported by K a h r Arms.
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.
First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can view it and/or download the pdf file here:
http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf
Please watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums. To start, a very good one:
Proper Prepping of a new Kahr:
http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14748
A very handy one is the Kahr Lubrication Diagram:

Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.
Another great resource for information on Kahrs... Archives of Magazine and Internet Reviews for Kahr pistols by industry experts. They test these pistols and report on their views and the ammo they tested in it. This is a good way to find ammo that might fit your needs along with accuracy and feeding in the pistol... usually from a rest with velocity and energy, as well as penetration and expansion sometimes... very informational.

One very important bit of advice: Hold the Kahr pistol firmly when firing OR CHAMBERING a round. These compact pistols need all of the force they can get from the slide to get a round into the chamber successfully. If you don't hold the pistol firmly, part of the needed momentum is transferred to MOVING THE PISTOL and the top round will DIVE and jam into the right side of the feed ramp. The weak hand, over hand rack method gives the best grip and a firm rack will give you the best chance at chambering a round.
Use the weak hand fingers over the slide(clear of the ejection port), thumb along the slide and pointing to the rear. Use the gun hand to simultaneously firmly push the gun as you give a vigorous rack with the weak hand and cleanly release the slide as it reaches the rear limit and is "snatched" from the weak hand. This approximates a real rack from firing and beats the slide release method WHEN executed properly. Much more strength can be exerted when this is done closer to the body.
Here's a video on that. The first part is what I'm talking about:

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

Break in tips please
Clean it, lube it, go shoot it. Add a higher power recoil spring if you plan on shooting a lot of +P.
My favorite holster; Mitch Rosen Premier.
Enjoy your new P9.

Can't speak for the newer Kahrs but my 2002 P9 had some issues with being too tight. Would jam with the spent case longways in the ejection port. There were wear marks all over the chamber block from the slide. Finally took some Flitz and a Dremel and polished it until you could work the slide without marks on the block and that cured the little beast. I believe the newer ones are fine now.

I never did anything special with my 4 kahrs . Clean them well . Don't forget the striker channel area , Run them wet and use good ammo for the first 100 or so then try what ever cheap stuff you have . Get use to racking the slide as its not an issue with a full pull and clean release . Never used the slide hold open as a release . All mine managed to run thru a 400 round break in trouble free with no extra cleaning or lube .
Keep a box or two of speer lawman 124gr ammo or rem express 124gr to use as a proof round if some other ammo does not run well .
If your new to small snappy pistols you may find going thru ammo like you would with a full size pistol NOT Possible .Easy to have grip issues show up like adjusting your grip ever shot , accuracy goes to heck , stop take a break or call it a day .
