I transferred a new P9 w/ night sights from CDN last week and didn't even have a chance to look at or clean the gun until last night.
Going through my cleaning and lubricating of the gun I noticed the front sight did not illuminate. I could easily see the illumination of the rear sights but the front sight had none. Called Kahr and initially was told they would repair it but I needed to send back at my own expense. Surprised that they would not send a label I told him that was not the experience that I've heard on the Kahrtalk forum and I asked him to check again. After getting disconnected once calling back and getting the same representative he put me on hold again and a label is being shipped.
Not the best of starts for my contacting kahr customer service but it sounds like they will make it right.

After the third trip, your front site will light, but the rear will not. Then you will start having strange misfires and ejection problems.
It seems they always, no ALWAYS throw up a road block on the first/second call. Then, if your determined enough, you get service.

Just the slide would need to be sent back. A slide is not a firearm, so shipping ground would only be a few dollars.
Still...

That wasn't my experience when I had to return my P380 for service. While Kahr didn't volunteer to pay for shipping the didn't balk at e-mailing a prepaid mailer when I requested one. But then again, I'm a smooth talker. :)

No doubt the approach of the person making a request can make a huge difference.

Do they sell sight pushers for Kahr sights or will Glock sight pushers work? I was thinking about buying a slide without the LCI on it. Think if I ask nicely, they will install?
I tried to order a replacement LCI spring for my "California approved" P380 and was told it was a restricted part.
I gave up and ordered a replacement from Wolff Gunsprings.

I have used one of those $60 or $80 "Glock" sight pushers successfully on Kahrs. You have to be pretty careful and I used a bar clamp as well as a soft jaw vice to rig it all up.
I would bet those $200 to $300 sight pushers might be a bit better, but I'll probably never know..

it was new in the box, never fired. I suppose it was partially my fault for not checking that when I handled the transfer? Fed ex ground for just the slide was $12 I suppose I could have easily paid that. I feel iIt takes a little of the fun and excitement out of getting something new and I'm not trying to be unreasonable but just don't get it when a company like Kahr does great r&d great manufacturing, spends a ton on marketing and building a brand doesent seem to recognize how important protecting that brand through good customer contact skills and customer service.
I Sent it back, the label was fed ex ground so they won't even get it until Friday, It will be another week at least before I recieve it back. If it wasn't for my brother in law swearing by this gun and all the amazing people in this forum who have helped me in my decision on what to acquire (and swear by these guns) I might have moved on.
Since this this forum is sponsored by the manufacturer I hope they take the feedback given in the spirit intended.

The frame is the only part requiring expensive shipping and an FFL. You can use the small Flat Rate Box for Priority Mail and send just the slide for $5.95... 2-3 days shipping with tracking.
I've shipped several slides that way.

The frame which is in legal terms, the firearm, needs to be shipped overnight via air. According to the commercial carriers e.g. FedEx, UPS, too many firearms end up being stolen during land transportation. Instead of increasing security, IMO, it's just another ploy to improve profits.
A firearm owner can ship a firearm to a manufacturer for repairs, adjustments, etc. without involving another FFL. The manufacturer can ship your firearm back to your home but most likely you'll have to sign for it upon receipt. Years ago, I found my S&W repaired firearm tucked behind a bush next to my front door. I guess the commercial carrier driver was running late that day.
BTW, should you ship via FedEx, do NOT seal the box until FedEx has a chance to confirm that the firearm is NOT loaded. I brought mine in all sealed up ready to ship and they cut all the tape then re-taped it.

they recieved the slide on friday and I called today to see what the time frame would be on getting it back. I was sadly informed that on my new gun that they only need to replacd the front sight my wait would be 2-3 weeks before they would be sending it back to me. :( is this consistent with others experiences?

No, other stories included super fast turn around....but problems were not fixed. Hopefully you will get satisfaction in a single trip!

I think they usually provide a worst case scenario time frame. The person giving the time frame probably isn't working on the bench. They usually have a pretty good idea though.
Better to say 3 weeks and you get it in 1 or 2 than say 1 or 2 and you don't get it for 3 or 4.
I also hope you get satisfaction but I won't consider it surprising or any kind of miracle. They certainly don't send back guns with issues knowingly.
