View Full Version : Double stack Kahr idea

I was bored today, so I experimented. I love the grip geometry of Kahr's .45s, particularly the width. It just feels good. So I wondered what it would be like if they took that grip width and put a widened, staggered 9mm mag in it.
So I stuffed 9mm rounds into a 1911 magazine and found that 8 rounds of .45 equals 10 rounds of 9mm if they stagger out to that width, which is about 15/32" inside the 1911 mag.
The grip length should be fine, no longer than a 1911. 12 rounds of 9mm would be even better, but let's not push the "thin is sexy" envelope to its breaking point by making it absurdly long. Ten is good, as it would compete with the Gl**k 26 and be Commie-state compliant.
Who wouldn't want a 10+1 9mm as thin as a CW45? I think it would be a winner. 3.5 to 4" barrel; it's gotta stay concealable.
Shot Show is four months away... :)

Yep, sounds good. Stick a 9mm barrel on that .45. I'd buy one of those, maybe.

listen up, why screw with a 1911 style. Mark ol jocko's words, kahr will come out with a doubl;e stack and it will be in a 9mm first and possably in a P series or PM seriesw.
save ur money, its coming..

Personally I almost hate to see them venture out of their compact arena. Change has always scared me even more so since a couple elections ago. I'm kind of a don't mess with success kind of guy.
Besides with a 45, how many do you really need? That's what extra mags are for right?

Jocko, I only used the 1911 as a grip size and magazine comparison, since most people can visualize it without any trouble.
I could have compared it to a Glock 36.
The more I think about it, the more I would definitely save my money for a 10 round Kahr with a grip as wide as their .45s.

With my CM40, I can't hit a barn. I need a lot of bullets, and God help the bystanders. I'm in the market for a 9mm SCCY or something so I have more chances! The CM40 is too wild for me, you guys tell me the .45 is easier, but I still want a lot of bullets.

We're on opposite corners of the continent so I'm probably safe in bystander status. I'm still alert for Jocko since he's only half a continent away and I've heard of his life long efforts to hit a barn door, bystanders beware around him too I reckon.
I have a K40 and it's too much flip for me, it shoots excellent and hits well but too much aiming at the moon in between shots.
Get a 9, shoot the hell out of it and carry an extra mag and you'll be fine.

Jocko never misses. Whatever he hits he claims was his target. :)

If kahr made a real double stack pistol line I would dump my M&P's and sigs . Bump out the grip enough to make the sig p250 mags work . They make a double stack with a 1.1" wide grip on there thin p250 and p320 line for a 9mm and 40 , not much wider for the 45 but leave the kahr slide width alone .
HEY KAHR YOU READING THIS .

The PM45's grip is 1.0" wide. I could probably stand 1.1", beyond that it's too wide to stuff in my belt. That's just me, a lot of people don't mind fat double stacks in their pants; I do.

That didn't stop Glock...
I laid out a magazine cross section based on the idea of a 1.1" wide grip and staggered 9mm magazine. Turns out that 10 rounds staggered in that space saves about 1/4" in height. Not sure if that's enough to make it worthwhile.
By comparison, my Ruger P- series mags get 10 rounds in a much shorter space by widening it out pretty fat.

certainly the K and T series are not compact guns. Kahr is in the business to sell good products, IMO they lack the double stack in their line. Certainly it would not be going out of their line to do so. Plus u 45 1911 guys --well I will stop right there...

Looking at the Sig P250, somehow they crammed 12 rounds into a gun that's about .3" shorter and .1" wider than a CT9. http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p250-subcompact-nitron.aspx
This can be done.

Maybe I should not wonder if kahr will get on the double stack band wagon as they probably will price them selves out of the game from the looks of the gen2 pistols price . For a 10th of an inch in width and a 2oz we all ready have a couple great double stacks in the family with my wifes p250sc that's getting closer to a kahr smooth and light DA trigger as rounds go down range and my fine short pull triggered p320 compact .
Granted sig does not make as many small a line of handguns but for me I have with retirement moved beyond micro and small pistols for normal daily carry .
The p320 and p250 are physically the same size with different trigger function type's . All size pistols have the option of a small 1.10 wide grip and the grip module and they can be swapped between the p250 and p320 . Some are hard to find like the carry size and slow to retail sales .
Heres a few of the options for grips ??

Here's the filler for a SC with compact mags or a compact with full size mags on the p250 and p320

Like I said, TOO many nines out there already...........................some people are really concerned whether their firearm holds 12 or 13, or 7 rounds............If you need more than 4 or 5, your in the wrong place at the wrong time, and you'd better learn to run.................................fast.......... ..................................It would seem that they need to work out some problems with their current lineup before starting another issue.............
I'd rather see a slightly wider grip, ever so scantly plumper, not unlike the more 'less profoundly rotund' cheeks upon which the newly post virginal lass sets herself.
Couple that with an offset feeding/egress for the manifold contents of the magazine.
Aye, that would scratch the insatiabe itch.
