I'm now considering getting the 8rd mag as a backup for my PM9. I don't like the skinny mag between the base and grip so think one ought to be able to build it up to match the grip. Has anybody done this (pics)? Any reason it cannot be done (or downsides)? Suggestions?

If it's a go, I'll be asking for somebody's sitting-in-the-drawer factory 8rd flat plate mag at a friendly price.

Wow, Tilos! I didn't think anything like this existed. All the threads about "the gap" and never a mention. From the little I could find, it sounds like the spacer is the same external size as the grip so it appears and feels like the grip itself is longer and the mag base is flush. Is that correct? I saw pics of an XD but no Kahrs - though they do have extenders for Kahrs. Can you post a pic if you have one?

This pic is for the SpringField XD but look how it fits. That's what I was going to try to do, but I'll buy it instead.

I don't have one and was hoping you would pull the trigger and try one.:o
It's made for the steel frame guns, but looks like something that it could be modified rather than starting with nothing.
Maybe someone who has one will join in here.

Another idea I had was buying a simular cheap air soft gun and hacksawing off the the grip, for a starting point for a real grip extending floor plate.

Note:
I have also modified (cut) that useless grip floor plate on the long PM9 mag and used it on the short mag to fill the pinky pinching gap.

I did, I did! Now that I ordered the cover, I need the mag to put it on. SOooo, anybody have an extra 8rd Kahr Mag that fits the PM9 please let me know. It needs to be quick 'cause I hear the budget police coming.

My PM9 came with a 6rd and a 7rd, but no 8rd.

Received the A&G Grip Extender and found it is for the 7rd mag, not the 8. It looks a lot better than without but is not perfect. For those of us who are a bit overzealous it is worth the $13 to buy.

It does make the grip feel full sized, and while I'll carry the 7rd with grip extenders as spare mags, I will carry the 6rd flush in the holster.

PS: A little careful edge work on the spacer may make a difference in fit.

Here are the pics:

This is the 7rd without the grip extender.

This is with the grip extender and the mag pulled down against the stop.

This is with the grip extender and the Hogue Grip pulled down like I'll carry it. Note it does NOT interfere with mag changes.

This an end view to show it's not perfect but not too bad.

I'm not trying to put down what you're trying to do here, but it seems to me that you're trying to turn the very concealable PM9 into a P9. I'm thinking that you should have bought a P9 or even a TP9... it has even more grip.:boink:

Wynn, I'll go you one better. Had I known I'd end up carrying IWB I would have bought the PM45!! But I had pocket carried my Colt Mustang PocketLite 380 and it was so easy I wanted the same experience in a 9mm. The gun shop guy started paper on a CW9 but then I stuck it in my pocket and said no way. I tried the PM9 and said it is doable.

Before all this, I tried the IWB holster I inherited with dad's Colt Commander 1911 .45 and it was painful. Of course it is a piece of soft leather with a belt clip on it. Unfortunately I was so new at this my mind was made up.

Now with my Silent Thunder PM9 Holster I may get one for Dad's 1911, but want to try something close first. Or if Rob has one made up I might try it. I had said I wouldn't carry Dad's gun for sentimental reasons, but in thinking about it, he was more a rugged outdoors man who hunted deer on horseback in the snow in Utah and would be proud of me for carrying it.

A compatible, comfortable holster makes a big difference. It's a matter of connecting with a suitable one before you run out of money and/or patience.:D That's where this forum can really help you with the collective wealth of knowledge and experience with every kind of holster, as well as pistols and methods of carry.
And, if you have a drawer full of holsters you didn't find suitable, maybe someone else here would like a good deal and take some off your hands.:D
I know you have to work with what you have, but I thought it kind of funny that you seemed to be trying to turn the PM9 into a P9.
I've had a K9 for over 13 years and never carried it much. When I used to walk my little dog at night... late at night, I wanted something larger and more powerful than the Walther TPH with Stingers that I had become accustomed to carrying.
I had the K9 with night sights but I had never fired it enough or become accustomed to the DAO trigger. I was used to single action or DA/SA pistols. My full-sized S&W 645 with NS was too darned big and heavy, so I wound up getting a Para P12 with NS which felt a lot better... lighter and more compact.
I felt sufficiently armed with 12+1 .45 acp and a reload, as well as my stun gun and a decent "tactical" light. It didn't take me long to stop carrying the reload, since I figured 13 rounds of .45 ought to be enough. After we lost our doggy, I sold the Para to get money for a new stereo.
Now I would carry the PM45 and a 7-round reload. Here I am rambling again.
I posted a link (again) about "Ballistics by the inch" -- a pretty thorough testing of various calibers, ammo and barrel lengths, with a variety of pistol of differing barrel lengths as well. This could be handy for choosing ammo for your short-barreled pistols:
BBTI - 9mm Luger (http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/9mmluger.html) -- the 9mm page.

You can make a small gun big but you can't make a big gun small. For your purposes carrying the 6rd flush and those extended ones for range or spares I think it was a good option.
I also agree you should carry your dad's war horse 1911 when your confident and ready to do so. With the 100 year anniversary coming up I'm beside myself with all the cool stuff they are bringing out. Nothing I'll be able to afford in my lifetime but darn cool to look at and drool on.
Kimbers bringing out a commemorative thats all color case hardened and frankly it makes me wet thinking about it.
I got a soft spot for color case hardening. Thinking of getting the treatment on my recent Hi Power acquisition since it's been refinished and isn't 100% correct anyway. Could be very cool.

Thanks guys, I received my Silent Thunder for dad's 1911 and it feels right. It's heavier than the PM9 but with the alloy frame not as bad as I thought. I discovered that by moving the back suspender belt catch toward the gun it feels about the same as the PM9. I haven't carried it all day though so time will tell.

I'm waiting for some springs and will also detail strip it and clean it right. My gunny was too busy with shotguns to do it for me and told me to get with the program and figure it out.

I know it's time to tear it down because while cleaning, I discovered the spring loaded "nubs" on each end of the "Plunger Tube Assembly" were actually stuck. At first I wasn't sure they were supposed to move but a good squeeze popped them loose. I don't know what else is locked up so I will make it right.
