View Full Version : CW40: FT Feed / Slide Stop Spring?

Greetings all-
Love my CW40, but have some issues completely trusting it . . .
Occasionally, the slide will remain locked to the rear (both when chambering a round from a fresh mag & also during fire exercises).

Disconcerting, to say the least, as it's been my everyday CCW!

I may have bent the Slide stop spring during reassembly, so I ordered 2 new ones, in case that was the issue. Installed a new one, and the pin assy wants to hit the spring wire dead on center, so I'm not sure if the spring wire is supposed to go above or below the wedged area of the pin.

Does the spring wire go above or below? Does anyone else have the failure to feed issues I experience? Are they related to each other?

Thanks for any help!!

The slide stop spring goes above the wedge on your slide stop. When inserting slide stop the slide stop spring should rest above the wedge.Never had a problem with my slide stop spring on my CW9 but i always make sure that its going above the wedge on the slide stop before reinserting it.

And when dissasembled i make sure i don't bend it.If the slide stop spring is not in right position yes it could cause slide to stay back when firing. How are you chambering first round? Use slide stop to chamber 1st round as the manual states.Racking slide will cause failure to chamber.

After about 500rds i can rack my slide and chamber first round but you can't ride the slide at all.So usually i just chamber first round with slide stop.Hope i have been of some help.

Thanks, Fenderman-
I find I need a strong, direct light in that location to ensure the spring rides to the top. Maybe the newer spring will acquire a "memory" & lean in that direction. Seems like it's not as "blinfold friendly" as, say, a 1911.
While I often chamber first round by the slide stop, in combat-style range work I grasp and pull briskly to rear, letting my left hand actually hit my right shoulder.

I'll let some rounds thru with the new spring, see how it goes . . . Thanks!

Follow-up:
Fired some rounds thru. Fewer failure to feeds, possibly due to new spring.
However-
All brass has an abraded area near case mouth, with corresponding flettening of the case mouth circle in same area. This has always been the case with this pistol. Rem-UMC slightly, but Federal even more so.
Also-
I have 3 factory mags. Each one has approx 1/16" play, meaning it can be pushed up into the grip further. Of course, when holding in a firing grip, the pinkie presses the bottom of the mag down & out, revealing the silver of the mag itself. It would seem to me that this slop / play would be unacceptable amd may contribute to failures to feed.

Comments, anyone?

Thanks!
