I've been looking at Browning Buck Mark 22's. Some of the models looked identical to me, but one was California Compliant and the other was not. So I asked Browning what was the difference. What is the feature that makes it compliant?
Quote:"The California compliant models slide does not have the lips on the back to help in retracting the slide."
Can it get any more ridiculous, idiotic, absurd, ludicrous, silly, imbecilic than this? (I ran out of adjectives.) So they wanted to make it harder to manually rack the slide!!
I'm sure that change will save millions of lives in California,..... but will pi$$ off a lot of women with weak grips. Good grief!:2rolleyes: :puke:OMG, there IS a war on women.

CA is run by a bunch of morons. How about this: the CA Compliant AR now has a mag release that makes it impossible to release the mag without a tool. That's a boon for wacko's using ARs. Now they know they can do a mag dump no matter what, because even if someone grabs their gun they have no chance of releasing the mag and the dirtbag can keep firing. Law-abiding citizens can not use mags bigger than 10 rounds, or they become felons. Of course the dirt bags can use any gun or mag they want.
Let's see, dirtbag has a 100 round mag AR against a citizen with a 10 round mag AR, who wins?
CA law is now in favor of criminals and against citizens.

Same as always, the quickest and best shot.
All laws empower the criminal, because the law abiding will not break the law.

That's strange as Browning lists "California compliant" Buck Marks with "winged" slides on their website:

Yeah, I thought all of them had the wings until I got that email reply. Maybe I'll go back to the website and take a much closer look at all the various "views" to see if they are different in the photos.

OK, I took another look. I had asked Browning about the Standard URX (black) compliant and non compliant. The Buck Mark Standard URX -California Compliant actually looks like the back of the slide has a "bigger" more protruding wing (if you could call it that) than the non compliant Standard URX. It looks more like a rectangular bump than a wing. Nevertheless, it's just backwards of what I would have thought. So the Standard black URX compliant would actually be easier to grip the slide than the non compliant Standard black URX. Perplexing. Gives me a headache.

Yeah, that seems in line with something I read on RimFireCentral:
"I contacted Browning about differences in the two variations of the Buckmark Standard. They said that the only difference is that the CA compliant model has a slightly different contour to the grooves on the slide. They are slightly deeper and have ridges to make it easier to manually cycle the slide. If you go to the Browning web site you can see the difference.
Thanks for all of your comments."
Still, I find it odd that this is the slide of a California Compliant Buck Mark (granted other California Compliant pistols have slides with different griping surfaces)

I wonder if, given the slide variations Browning offers on the Buck Mark, that the California Compliant pistols are simply the models Browning submitted for approval.
FWIW, here are two other style slides available on current Buck Mark pistols:
Notice on this version that the serrations/slide are cut at angle to provide more purchase at the rear
http://i62.tinypic.com/2potvsh.jpg
This version has "ears"
http://i57.tinypic.com/rcirtx.jpg
I've have them with the angle cut slide and the smooth slide.

http://i54.tinypic.com/295bhgl.jpg
I don't find either particularly hard to cock, but I've read of others having difficulty.
Tandemkross offers a product to make the "angle cut" slide easier to operate:

There's a "slide racker" available for the really smooth sided slide, but it requires gunsmith installation:

You can also find a variety of solutions (or proposed solutions) on various sites. For example:

Women call it "the silent treatment", and they think we don't like it..
I just noticed your signature line. That cracks me up. :D

The idea of making guns Callyfornia Compliant is to discourage manufacturers from making guns for Callyfornians. And now you know the rest of the story.

Funny how Kalifornians think they can make murder somehow "compliant."
But then, it's not about saving lives, it's about their utopia where only Government has guns.

Then, I guess all the Kalifornians should move to China, Cuba, Mexico, etc.

Kalifornia and NY.
Maybe we need to build a wall and they can secede from the union?:p
I vote we give Kalifornia back to Mexico!
I'm kidding of course.
Hopefully better things will be coming our way.
A healthy dose of common sense would be nice...

Then they couldn't sit around smoking dope and theorizing about the perfect place, while the government took care of them. They might even need to work to survive... d;-)
