View Full Version : My CW9 Proved Itself Deadly

After a trip to the range last night to put a few rounds through a new shorty shotgun, and a few through my CW9, I stopped on the way home to visit my gun shop/ffl buddy. When we walked out the door of the "shop" my buddy shined his spotlight down towards his pond to see if the stinking nutrias were there doing their normal destruction. Yep, there were 4-5 swimming around within sight.... I offered, and he said he'd hold the light. Shots were limited due to the direction of other homes in the neighborhood, so we had to wait for the vermin to swim into the shootable directions. I missed the first shot about 15 yards out shooting a bit too low.... standing elevated above the target and mis judging the underwater body size of the nasty rat didn't help.
I think the next two shots at least knocked some hide off their guts. Before they all managed to evacuate, I ventilated one perfectly. The Trijicon night sights made all the difference in the world. There ain't no way I could have hit a nasty swimming water rat at 10 yards at night without the tritium sights.

I guess I better call him and see if the neighbors called the sheriff over gunshots at near midnight... and see if he found any floaters that may have succomed to minor flesh wounds:D

LOL.... I think you just sold me on night sights for the brand new P9. Although the sights that come with it seem sweet. I don't know, mabe it'll help to actually get the gun first!

Yep, you'll definately appreciate the night sights. I went with the sights offered by Kahr for the CW as soon as I could, but word is that there are other sights available that just may be a bit "larger". I would have prefered the sights to have a bit bigger tritium tubes, but they worked great on the swimming rats anyway.

Next time I go rat hunting I'll make sure and have some "less expensive" projectiles.... they ain't worth a buck a shot.:D

Wow. A real kill with the CW9. I wonder how many other members have drawn blood with their Kahrs?

Also an interesting real-life testimony for night sights. I've been toying with them for my CW9, but I've exhausted my gun budget at least for a little while.

A rat is the only creature on earth that when I shoot it,I hope I only wound it so it suffers before it dies.I despise those things with my entire being.Go back and wound more.Good for you.

Nutra rats... good for one thing and only one thing. Target practice. P.s. Ray there was a thread recently about a really nasty looking snake falling to a pair of Kahrs.

Oh, right, I remember the snake thingy. These Kahrs aren't exactly designed to be hunting pistols but they do sorta seem to work out OK in that department, huh?

Very true that Kahrs are not designed to be hunting pistols, aray. The nice thing about them is that they are with you whenever and wherever the need arises. That's the beauty of owning a Kahr.

Rat tat tat tat Take dat you dirty Rat!!! Did you do a post-mortem examination for hollow point penetration and expansion? Were they Gold Dot 124 +P? Pretty little flowers?

actually, it was PMC Eldorado Starfire 124 gr jhp's.... I just happened to have a few of them "in stock", and like the way they shoot. Normally, I prefer Rem Golden Sabers in most of my carry guns, but gave my daughter in law my supply of the GS 9mm's last year shortly before I added the CW9 to the stable. I thought I was through with 9mm in favor of my old Kimber Compact and Sig P239 40 cal, but the 9mm kept calling me back:D

And, yes, the Starfire left a pretty good sized exit hole in the one rat we recovered. With only about three nches of penetration there's not a lot of room for major expansion though.

If I could depend on 9mm shot shells cycling reliably I would carry the CW9 for my daily "field gun", but that's not even going to be an experiment. Semi's and shot shells just don't play nice together, and when I have to bear down on a copperheadedcottonmouthedcoralwaterrattler I want to be sure I have second shot capability:)

That's where a revolver would be nice... with shot cartridges. The crimped ones don't eject well after firing and none of them eject well from the K9 unfired.
I have some crimped .45 Remington shotshells that I'm sure would jam in the PM45. It's tight enough with regular ammo.
