View Full Version : CM9 Slide stuck on frame

I have field stripped my CM9 many times but this time the slide is stuck on the frame and will not come off.

It will not move more than 1/4 inch so I cannot reinsert the slide stop and start the take down process over.

I have tried every conceivable sequence of trigger pull to remove the slide and nothing has worked.

Any suggestions before I take it to a gunsmith or send it back to Kahr and let them figure it out?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is the magazine removed? If not remove it. If you can, align the slide with the frame in the normal battery position and then pull the trigger and the slide should come off. There was also an incident where the barrel was catching on the cocking cam. If I recall correctly the owner slid a thin piece of metal into the rear of the slide to push the cocking cam down which allowed him to remove the slide.

I've had that happen. Greg has a video of how to get it off somewhere on here but if i remember right the process is hold the slide in the position it would be normally, pull the trigger to release any tension, then move the slide foward with the trigger about half pulled and it will come off.

Hang in there and you'll get it. Dont go to a gunsmith yet...

That happened to me when I pushed the slide all the way back without inserting the slide lock. I was just curious! I ended up having a gunsmith get it off, but what he did was push the back of the barrel down hard to allow the slide to go over it. I won't do that again!

Check this out. May not be an exact example but shows how the trigger is key to getting it off.

Greg has some good videos here.

Just from the feel of it I think this is what is happening. I may give it a try after I call and talk to the Kahr Customer service folks today.

Thanks.

I have tried that because it looks like the slide is not clearing the back part of the barrel. I'll try it again and use a little more force and see what happens.

Thanks.

Any chance you can post a photo of the pistol so we can see the slide's position? If you want send them to gb6491@q.com and I'll post them for you.

Greg

There was a thread somewhere that showed how to make a little "hook"on a wire to where you could reach under the back and pull down to release the slide. The OP of the thread had installed his slide improperly and couldn't get it off. I thought it was made a sticky.

^^^ yep, that's it! Wish I had seen that when I was stuck, but I hadn't even found this board yet, it was my first day with it.

Being a big dummy I actually made this mistake........TWICE. Fortunately, I was able to get it loose. I think I was able to force the slide back far enough to pull the trigger. Maybe I was just lucky and it wasn't hung up as bad. I'm sure I will do it at least a third time so it's good that someone had a good fix. BTW, is this a sticky? I couldn't find it.

It is a sticky in the Tech section.

I finally got the slide off the frame. I still don't know why it got stuck, but I just kept working with it and something finally clicked (literally) and I was able to get it off the frame.

Otherwise I was going to end up sending it to Kahr which would probably ended up costing me about $100 to $150 ($60/hour plus shipping and handling) bucks if it had been an issue not covered by the warranty.

Much thanks to everyone for the responses.

When mine got stuck I was in the same boat, shipping, ffl fees and labor. I went to a local Florida Firearms Academy where they have a gunsmith on hand and charged me $20. Glad you got it straightened out.

Don't get me started or I'll tell them how your MOS in the Army Reserve was Typing Instructor. The only way that we could have lost the war in Vietnam faster is if the Army made you a small arms instructor. Besides, I told Bruce that I'd never tell. After all I joined the Navy to ride the waves. Bruce was just a port in a storm. :)
