I'm just curious, and I'm hoping others can chime in. I know that the steal frame Kahr pistols do not have very good resale value, but in the current market and in general, what's a fair price for a used non-Elite MK40 pistol with bar sites?

Whatever the traffic will bear. Just remember what P.T. Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute." :)

^^^ some people's kids. Lotsa factors involved but around here? $4-500. Just a guess. But a bargain IMHO. Been kicking myself for a long time for passing on a nice one with bright night sights for $515...and I probably could have negotiated.

Thanks... The one you own now doesn't have night sight?

^^^ yes, both my MK9 and K40 have night sights. I didn't think I needed an MK40...hence the kicking. You can never have too many good guns. But I do like the bar-dot sights on my CM45. I have no plans to replace them. I think bar-dot is a little quicker on target. But I am more accurate (albeit slower) with the 3-dot night sights.

Look on Texas Gun Trader or other site like that.

I passed on a $379 MK40 in the used case a few months back. It was $80 over my "Ask for forgiveness" ceiling. I've been kicking myself since. I did buy the $279 NAA Guardian with a Kahr Arms stamped frame from 2005. I don't think it had been shot more than 10 times. It had never been cleaned, and was very clean, anyway. Still had the red goo on the end of the recoil spring. I count that gun as my "Steel P380", to go with my P380, even though the only thing similar is the size. Anyway, back on topic. After I passed on the MK40 (it was a Managers Special for the weekend), the price went back up to $520. Around here, $520 is what I seem to find a used MK40 priced at.

^^^ I woulda had no willpower at all at $379. That's why I try to stay out of gun stores. Every time I buy a box of ammo it costs me... ;)

I just went and had my wife kick me. She's still wondering why. . .
Interesting/amazing thing. . . That NAA Guardian .380 transfers as much recoil to the shooter as the MK40, IMO. Maybe more. Enough recoil, that I thought, "Can this gun take this?". (Full disclosure, "My" gun is a Glock 33, .357 Sig. I'm not recoil sensitive.) And, it has a 10-pound trigger. "No problem, at all", one thinks at round 1. But, you feel it when you get to round 45, or 46. The MK40 trigger I passed on was oh, so butter smooth. (Longing, reminiscent eyes "I let her get away" emoji)

That's what sparked my question. Not because I wanted to sell a MK40, but because I went to one of my LGS only to take the Utah CCW class, but saw what I thought was a MK40 out of the corner of my eye on the way out. That was on a Sunday, and I've been fighting with myself all week long about whether to buy it or not. Long story short, common sense and willpower lost, and I picked up a like new K40 at a good price. I might see if I can trade it off for a MK9 or MK40 though..
The all steel series of Kahrs are great guns, and I for the life of me do not know why they aren't that popular or short after which explains the deals I've been seeing.

kee that K40, work out a way to get the MK. being it is used see if you can test shoot it to decide if your gonna like it. IMO, being an all steel gun, it is going tobe heavy other than waiste band carry, certainly IMO not a pocket gun in steel. Your gonna miss that K40. an MK40 is certainly gonna be a hand full to shoot IMO. 40 being a hot calibert and your into a small frame. Just sayin

Part of me wants to keep it; however, I already own a k9, so I really don't feel a need for it. I already put the 4" ported barrel, Wolff striker spring, and Crimson Trace grips on the K9, and add to less recoil and more compacity, I know I'm never going to carry the 40 over the 9mm...

I would have to place a high value on my MK40. Of my 15 pistols, including HK's, SIG's, Kahrs, a S&W 3rd gen, and SA, Kimber, and Detonics 1911's, the MK40 with night sights would be at or very near the top as my favorite. I also shoot it very accurately for such a small pistol - easily as well as larger guns.

i would say a private sale you could get around 450 if its in great shape. If u trade it in to a gun shop you will probably get 350 or so. If it was me i would just keep that baby and save for whatever else you want. Nothing worse then regret when it comes to selling guns!
