Who are you kidding? I want you to get one and post a pic so I can show the wife and convince her we need one.
I wanted to check one out at the NRA Annual meeting but the freight company lost ALL their guns. They had nothing but empty booths and brochures.

Hope you can find one. I have been on a waiting list at my LGS for almost a year now and still no luck. On a brighter side at least the 9mm and 40's are available now.

There was a thread about it before. I even managed to post my video review there before it degenerated into some kind of argument about anchor babies.

Anchors away...
I saw that video, and was wondering how that canted barrel turned out?
Got any shot of the Pitbull 45 next to a Kahr or J frame or SP101?
How did the trigger smooth out?
Thanks for all the extra updates!

I bench-tested it a bit to determine the amount of windage and now I simply aim right by about the half width of the front sight. Good enough for inside the house. I am coming up to perhaps 700 rounds through it and I'm getting a hang of it.
As for trigger, it's kinda okay. I don't use single action, since it's too light. I realize that if the perp has good movement technique and zig-zags, I'm not going to hit him because of the delay and jerking inherent in the rotation of the cylinder with just one finger. I'm new to revolvers and I cannot tell if the trigger pull is any different from those that Jerry Miculek uses.
I heard Smith had to pay him big bucks to prevent him from jumping to Charter Arms.....
And i can fix the amount of rotation you have. No big deal there

I had the .44 Pitbull, and really loved it. It was what I carried on the Harley with a couple of speed loaders. Mine shot pretty close to point of aim, didn't need to use Kentucky windage, although I never shot it more than 7-10 yards. Charter isn't one the same scale as S&W or Ruger, and the trigger isn't nearly as smooth out of the box, but will improve with firing. Or have a trigger job done on it, or do it yourself. I feel like you definitely get you money's worth. With a great guarantee and great customer service, at least they were when I needed them. I shot mine quite a bit in SA mode, guess I'm use to the light trigger pull. I wouldn't hold a thug at gunpoint while waiting on Police to come fetch them in SA, but other than that it's was much more accurate in SA, the DA. And it's made in the USA. I bought the 6 shot .38 special for my daughter when she was wanting something for around the house, and she really likes it. Now my ex wife wants me to get her one. Were on friendly terms, but not that friendly that I feel like dropping $300+ on her.

Safety rule #5 comes right after Know what's behind your target......It says NEVER buy an ex wife a gun.......I've always said that

...funny. I've never been drawn to auto caliber revolvers. Seems like you're missing out somehow. Now show me a .45colt Redhawk and I'll turn into pudding.

Charter Arms has recently introduced a limited run of the .44 Special PitBull, called the backpacker. The only difference is it's been fitted with a nice set of walnut grips and has Backpacker etched on the barrel. I guess only 50 have been produced so far.

I started out by wanting the new Redhawk (which is dual-chambered to .45LC and .45 ACP with moon clip). However, it is much too large and heavy, or one might say I'm too lazy to carry it on my hip whole day. The little .45 Pitbull is also half as expensive. By all accounts the Redhawk is a quality piece, but it's more of a range toy than everyday gun.

I thought I was the only one that used that strategy. I just finished a bulk ammo purchase strategy right before reading this. I'm glad to know I'm not slone.

The wait begins.
An fyi....Buds seems to play games with pricing. Clear cookies for best price. Sucks, but they got em.
And what a great country this is.
I can roll my Harley to a bar on Sunday morning, order bourbon and eggs, pull out my cell phone and order small arms limited only by ability to pay, and likewise order ammo which is shipped to where I work.
God bless AMERICA!!!!

Agreed, it is a great country.
I was at a gun show yesterday looking to check out the pitbull but there were only .38's to be found. I guess that saved me a few dollars for now. Good news is even gun show prices are down to the level of Academy Sports and some tables even lower than internet prices.

It's very close to expected. I paid $426 for mine on Gunbrocker and then $50 in local FFL fee.
Not too bad a wait.
I get to pick it up tomorrow, shoot Saturday.
I have had my .44SPL Pitbull for about a year now. Was just out shooting it yesterday. If I recall, I paid $350 for my gun new in the box. Excellent purchase. I find the sights to be right on the money at 7 to 10 yards. Have not shot farther then that. Only issue is the cost of ammo. Finding jacketed .44SPL is a real trick as well. The gun is an excellent value. Made in USA and has a lifetime warranty. I found this gun to be of much higher quality than the older CA revolvers. The new owner has really done a great job of improving the product. I am really glad I bought mine!
oops! I called my .44 SPL a Pitbull. It is a Bulldog! This little error may have something to do with age! ;-)

The ORIGINAL Backpacker was Larry Kelly's idea, and he used the Mag-Na-Port limited edition to promote his business
http://i55.tinypic.com/24nk07c.jpg
The original had bobbed/welded up hammer, no serration trigger, no sights or rib, shortened barrel to (from memory) 1-3/4 inches, and fairly ordinary grips for the day (early 1970s).
