Maybe someone else has had this issue. After cleaning when I try to push the slide back on the frame it gets blocked by something unless I put significant downward pressure on the slide while pushing back. A real pain in the ass! Any clues?

Sometimes I need to put push down slightly on the ejector when moving the slide to the rear. Try that.
The slide stop spring is in there, that is most likely what you are feeling. It provides tension to keep the pin in place & is the spring that locks the slide back after the last shot... It's supposed to be "snug" feeling when reinserting the slide stop pin. But when reassembling the pistol, do look in the hole & be sure that the barrel lug is not obstructing. Move the slide back & line u the witness marks on the slide & frame then insert the pin.... My K9 is snug too...

Wiggling the trigger... pulling it a little bit... can help get past the cam action.

That did the trick if I start the pin then it easily slides back for full insertion.
