I have a cm9 and i was thinking about getting an ankle holster, I have never used one and like the concept of having another carry option. so i am asking if anyone else has ever used one, and what make works best for you...

I prefer leaving my ankle out of a holster!

I wear one everyday with my PM45. I like the Galco Ankle glove. The one I like has the leather holster attached to the stretchy neoprene stuff. There's one where it's all neoprene like a generic fit all and I don't like it nearly as well.

They are available from Kahr direct or several outlets.

It should be noted mine is usually fulfilling a back up function or deep concealment mode as in wearing it to work where it's forbidden. It works great in a car, not quite so great in a van since you sit higher but still quite accessible.
I'm also at a slight advantage in that my legs don't serve much purpose other than to hang ankle holsters on or fill up the pant legs.
I did wear them in my vertical days though and got along just fine then too.

I never did an ankle holster but I guess it couldn't hurt to try. Someday maybe.

I'm was going to get a gun garter for when I'm wearing cargo shorts. Then I thought that someone might say watcha reachin' for there shorty. Six years in the Navy and I have only one tattoo to show for it. I had "Shorty" tattooed on my private part. When I get excited the tattoo reads, "Shorty's Bar and Grill, Chattanooga, Tennessee!" ;) I found it pays to advertise.

I tried someone else's, with an MK9, and it was ok at first, but after a couple minutes, I could tell that it was going to be too heavy, and could get to be irritating. Maybe with a lighter firearm. Don't see why it couldn't be a part of your "in certain circumstances" way of carry. I don't remember what kind it was, but it was like a miniature plastic/kydex holster, attached to a stretchy material.

I 90% pocket carry a Kahr CM9. I have tried several ankle holsters over the years for various pistols. Most were Nylon holsters. I also have a leather with fleeced lined for my Walther PP. Have never used them away from the house much, until I tried the Telortactical.com. It is Nylon and mesh with optional pouch for their air-cured foam/silicon impregnated insert which custom conforms both to the ankle and pistol.. I have found it comfortable for car travel and walking around. I use my Kahr CM9 and find it to be as comfortable as with a Kahr CW 380 I used to have before my Daughter claimed it.
I am scrawny and have thin ankles. Just my experience ,yours may vary. The perfect pistol is easy to find, the perfect holster is not.

thanks for your replies, I think I am going to try the desantis apache holster, it's not overly expensive so if I don't like it's no big loss. it just seems that no one looks at your feet to see if you are carrying.

I've used the Galco Ankle Glove for many years as one of my off duty methods of carry. A high quality holster. Very comfortable and secures my PM9 nicely. I highly recommend the optional calf strap as well for added comfort. The other holster that Bawanna refers to is the Galco Ankle Lite. Not nearly as nice as the Ankle Glove. I have no experience with the Desantis. I can tell you that prior to the Ankle Glove, I tried a few different "cheaper" ankle holsters. You get what you pay for.

I wear shorts all summer and after a couple years I have learned an ankle holster doesn't conceal well enough for me.

I agree about the advertising. Mine says "Beauregard's Transmission Repair and Fine Dining. Call for reservations"

I have worn and Chiefs Special in an ankle rig for years. But it only works with long pants obviously.

I can tell at a glance you will not be happy with the Desantis Apache. That is a generic holster meant to fit any small firearm and has minimal padding. The hard parts of your gun will rub against the bony parts and soft tissues of your ankle and calf and will be very uncomfortable after a couple of hours. Plus it will be slower to draw from a compression holster rather than a custom molded leather or kydex holster.

You really to go with something like a Galco Ankle Glove designed for your exact firearm. It will become a reliable asset in your concealed carry suite of options.

I have used the Ankle Glove on a Glock 27 for 9 years. I even placed a Glock 23 in there for a few months when my G27 was out of commission. I cant imagine not having a high quality ankle rig. I replaced the Ankle Glove with a new one after six years like I do with all holsters and belts.

As with any holster system, you really get what you pay for.

I've carried an officers Model 1911 in my ankle rig, the PM45 and the 1911 are pretty durn close.
A couple times a commander rode there too.
I agree, the ankle glove for your specific gun is the best option. You pay for it of course but well worth it in the long run.
You'll just have another rig in the holster drawer that was a good idea at the time that didn't work for beans.

Many years ago I tried an ankle holster for my Mustang 380. It felt awkward but something to get used to by wearing it. My problem was when running the dang thing always slipped out and went flying. I couldn't find a reasonable way to prevent it so gave up on the notion. Works for a lot of folks though, maybe if you wear boots?
