View Full Version : Concealing at the gym? Belly band?

Long time Glock'er. I bought a CW380 for the express purpose of buying the lightest and smallest pistol I could find for concealed carry at the gym. Now I am looking for a stable deep cover rig. Something that can handle jogging, jumping jacks, handstand pushups, etc, without falling out of the holster.... Belly band with velcro strap?
Does anyone have experiences to share with belly bands? Brands, configuration, etc?

Yes b4uqzme, I am kidding. Thats why I bought a CW380, Trijicon night sights, two Magguts kits, and 600 rounds of practice ammo. Because I am kidding. Hah. hah. hah.
Because something like the 2009 Collier Township mass shooting would never happen.

I carry my Springfield EMP in a Maxpedition Bag with my water. I could just as easily carry my MK9 in it or both. That works for me.
I also carry two spare mags to.
No one asks and it works for me.
I walk across a large mall parking lot from the gym to my condo 5 or 6 times a week. I was confronted by an aggressive pan handler (not uncommon here in Austin, Texas). I told him to move back 10 feet & he did when hand was on my EMP. I never pulled it out but was a fraction of a second from pulling and out. One never knows what vagrants or up to nice areas.
I walked off and he was trying to stop traffic by standing in front of cars yelling for money around the mall.
In any case he hasn't been back since then.
I ain't been in a gym since college, but I git along purty good packin' a CW 45 in a Remora IWB holster along side my big ol belly.
Gym? Harumph!!
I pocket carry. Change to gym clothes at the gym. CM9 stays in pants pocket and locked in locker. Change to street clothes after work-out and leave with pistol still in pocket. Concealed carry all the way. Also, too much trouble to figure how to carry while swimming and having to keep pistol and ammo dry.

Just wonderin' what kind of gym you work out in. :D One suggestion might be to find another gym. I can't think of anything that would hide it considering the clothing usually worn in gyms, unless an old Navy P coat is considered in style nowadays. Actually, I'm thinking a belly band would be the only thing that would hold it secure under the conditions you described. Now if you had a big belly to tuck it under it would work, but I doubt you fit that description. Good luck.

Put it in one of those cellphone armband thingamabobs. In a wallet holster I doubt anyone could even tell what it was even if they inspected it.

I was confronted by a guy with a butcher knife in the parking lot of my gym on Xmas eve in the afternoon so it does happen. The best all around carry for the gym is a fanny pack. I wear that to and from then put it in my gym bag AND KEEP THAT BAG CLOSE. I treat that bag like it has 1 mil dollars in it--get my drift? The fanny pack will allow some freedom to exercise but I wouldn't recommend it for all forms of training. Eventually you will need to remove your weapon for everyone's safety. My 2 cents.

Dang! You Glock'ers can be sensitive. Most Kahrtalkers got hides thicker than Armadillo armor. :)
Serious. I didn't mean to offend you so I apologize if I did. Or maybe I just misread the tone of your post. It's not that I avoid carrying a weapon to the gym. It's that I avoid gyms.
Thanks for joining.

I usually try not to jump around too much, when armed. A nice kydex IWB may be in order.

I go to a gym in a nice area where I live. However the City of Austin, Texas is so politically correct and APD understaffed except in downtown Austin, we in the nicer areas are SOL.
I have run most vagrants off despite some liberal neighbors who disagree. I live in a nice condo surrounded by 4 or 5 bus stops. I got a security code locked pedestrian gate after a year of effort. It reduced traffic through the condo with people cutting through to go from one bus stop to another by 2/3s. Many of these vagrants and others were "opportunity thieves" stealing bicycles and anything outside. That problem is largely over.
While I concealed carry 100% of the time, it is no secret that I am usually armed here and other places. Better to be prepared than wait 10 or more minutes for APD to respond after the fact. This liberal city leadership just doesn't get it!

The gym is my safe haven I've never though about carrying, you could honestly carry whatever you wanted and keep it in your locker. If Sh*t got crazy just make a mad dash for the locker room, you will get your fire arm and some cardio too [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji41]

I've been going to physical therapy... like going to a gym... and have my soft-holstered P380 in my "gym bag" which is close at hand. I could put it in my shorts pocket. That old Uncle Mike's Sidekick soft IWB holster is real handy for switching to pocket carry for partial or complete disrobing... pictured at 3 o'clock, or to the right of the holstered P380. :)

I don't carry at the the gym but the one I go to a lot of the hard core bodybuilders and power lifters all lug around their gym bags full of supplements/protein powders etc. People wouldn't think twice about you having one and would be a good way to hide and have your gun close by if needed.

It's best to keep your gun in a bag or on you and close by at all times. We've had several thefts of lockers at our local gyms.
Our YMCA which opened several years ago, first pool in town was all about making it acceptable for LE and families.
Then they told us they would not allow firearms in the facility. We got numerous small lock boxes to store their guns in the car and then common sense arrived and they just don't go there anymore.
Just last week they sent us all a card for free family membership, doubt they'll get many LE guys there, perhaps their families will go.
I never been in the place myself.

yes. A retired LEO stepped up and talked the guy down. It was close to pull time. Very close. The LEO, who witnessed the ordeal from the start, said it would have been a good shoot and would have testified to same. Glad I will never know. G-d got involved on Christmas eve. He put a LEO where he needed to be and the LEO did what needed to be done too. All were blessed that day. Funny, I haven't seen that LEO at the gym for almost 2 years since. Seems like there is a bigger power amigos.

I actually posted about this on rugerpistolforum. I'm thinking I'll get this to work with my cw380
I was looking for a good carry method while running and exercising without using a fanny pack and here is what i came up with. I purchased the avantree armband for the iphone 6 plus and cut up a alabama holster i dont use to gaurd the trigger. I originally tried the iphone 6 armband but the pistol did not fit. The one for the 6 plus fits the lcp and iphone 6 with otterbox like they were made for it. Let me know your thoughts.

I'm an avid cyclist and ride with either my CW380 or CW9 for hours with no issue. I'm not jumping up and down but I don't have any issues with an IWB coming out at 20+mph at higher RPMs. I would think and IWB holster with a blackstrap would be fine for what you are looking for...but workout clothes are pretty thin so that will also come into play

This looks like a great idea. Was it a pocket holster that you cut up? Did you leave the hook so it wouldn't come out with the gun? This is worth my looking into. I guess I live under a rock cuz I wasn't even aware of such a phone armband.

it is actually the wallet shaped Alabama holster and cut it down smaller than the one with the hook. It is actually the left handed wallet holster (I'm right handed). The armband stays on my left bicep zipper down so I can unzip and grab. The pistol sits under the strap designed to hold other stuff behind your phone and it is pretty solid in there due to the stickiness of the elastic inside. Really you could use some kind of filler if you don't want your phone in there.

I ordered the same thing a couple of days ago, Amazon just sent it to me today and my CM9 fits in there fine with a flush for mag, I took a old mouse pad and cut it to fit over the clear screen when I put my gun in there. Thanks for the idea though I love it. When I'm at the gym it can hold my car keys and money and phone. And in the summer when I'm running after work which is usually after 11pm at night I can go jogging with my pistol with me.

Thank you for that. I just try to think practical and find ways to conceal in what looks like everyday objects. Love the mousepad idea. Is a cm9 the same height and length as a p380/cw380? I understand it's thicker but I thought it was bigger in all dimensions. I'm surprised and glad to see it fit.

It is bigger I just got it to fit somehow I don't know lol and thanks I was proud of myself for thinking that up
