So, I'm up nort, at our other place, and in the past, I've seen a long warehouse that says Big Shots on the front. Homemade sign, not much activity. I told the wife that I'll have to check the place out sometime, looks like some kind of shooting place. Maybe clays, maybe sales, maybe a range. I'm somewhat familiar with the area but far from totally. We're out running some errands and I see the place again, and I've got to stop for a minute and see what's up. The wife stays in the car, and I get out and am making my way towards the front entrance. I'm about 10 ft. from the car, when all of a sudden two dogs come running out from the back of the place, right towards me, with teeth showing. A miniature Doberman, and some mop head looking thing. They're barking and showing teeth, and they are not stopping. ( It's always those little f******s) I usually deal better than most with nasty dogs, so I try to claim my space, and move towards the front door. They're not having it, and it starts to escalate. I am trying to keep my eye on the Dob, meanwhile the other one is trying to bite the back of my leg. I start spinning around and yelling, but it's not working, and they're not budging. This goes on for about a minute, and I notice that a couple of times, the dogs looked towards the back, as if someone was calling them, or they knew someone was in the back, like the idiot that let them out. I've got my MK in my pocket, and I am preparing to shoot both of these little f*****s. The wife is yelling from inside the car, and I'm yelling for her to stay in the car. I don't want to have to shoot them, but things are getting real dicey, and I can't keep my eye on both of them, and they are still escalating. I start moving back towards the car, trying to keep both at bay, and finally get back in the car with out getting bit. I was soooooooooooo close to ending this situation badly for the owner. Later that afternoon, I talked to my neighbor, and asked if he knew about the place. He said it was a shooting place, and he had been there a few times to shoot. I asked if he knew the owner, and he said he had seen him a few times, but he thought that he was having health issues, so he didn't know who was running the place. I told him the whole story, and he said that he would do some investigating for me. I told him to make sure, if he ever see's the owner, that he explains to him that it was someone's lucky day, and in all reality, he/they should have shown up to find 2 dead dogs in the parking lot. I wasn't saying that they were his dogs necessarily. He also lost my business, if he cares at all. I also told him, that I may stop again sometime, and if the same thing happens, it won't turn out the same. I will shoot them. If your going to have a situation like this, post your property. Warn people that dogs are present, so they can make a decision on how to proceed when they pull in the lot. I have a feeling that they weren't the owners dog, but someone got lucky that day. The dogs definitely did.

Wow, I hate those wild little dogs. Somebody is lucky for sure. I almost shot the neighbors dog once. I live in the south east and the pine pollen in the spring is terrible. I had just arrived home from work and was spraying the pollen off my car, when out of no where a pitbull comes rushing around the corner of the garage, going wide open, heading straight for me, I reached for my CCO but did not have time to draw, so I sprayed him in the face with the water hose. He stopped and started trying to catch the spray, he came very close. Come to find out my next door neighbors son had moved back in and brought his pitbull with him. It was close, I never mentioned it to the neighbor, turned out to be just a puppy, and loved playing.
Glad no one got hurt in either situation.

When I first read your thread Title, I thought Fabrique Nacionale had gone into the canine breeding business.

A few years ago when I was living on the lake I walked the road daily for exercise. I was accosted several times by dogs, sometimes a couple of them together, but I could tell they were not going to attack even though they acted like it. A neighbor on the road kept a huge Rotweiler on a thick log chain around a tree. Every time I walked past he tried to uproot that big tree and at times I thought he might just do it. He was vicious. Every time I saw the owner he just claimed the dog was just a big baby and wouldn't hurt anyone. That did nothing to convince me because I was once bitten on the leg by someone's big baby German Shepard. Finally the guy put up a fence but the dog dug under the fence and got out several times. Inevitably, one day he was out as I went by. He didn't see me until I was past his house. I heard this monster roar, I turned around and here this big black buffalo came full speed right at me. Wouldn't you know it was one of the few times I didn't have my S&W on me. So I turned to face him and made myself as big as possible :2eek: and got ready to fight him off. Just when he reached me I let out a mighty roar and he hesitated and stopped. Luckily about that time his owner heard the commotion and called the dog. I never forgot my gun after that and I told the owner if it ever happened again he would have one dead buffalo.

When I was a new lineman they put me with an old cowboy who knew all the ropes. One day we were sent on a call to a ranch with a gate and a long walk to a barn. We headed out on foot and got within 100 feet and a pair of dobermans tore out at us simply raising hell for dinner. It was too far back to the truck so we stopped and when they got about 15 feet out my partner whipped his cowboy hat off and yelled at them to shut up and get! Those suckers slid to a stop and looked then slowly walked back to the barn. We stood there until sure of their intent then walked back to the truck and left. The old cowboy was something else and taught me well, but I never had the voice to scare off other than a house dog. He coulda stopped a raging bull with his. Miss the ole boy.

I'm just wondering what would have happened had you killed the dogs? Would you just leave? Or do you call the cops and try to explain why you killed the owner's dogs while on his property? Hindsight is 20/20 but I think we're better off not exploring vacant-looking places. I'll look him up on the internet where it's safe from everyone but hackers. Glad you are OK tho.

At my home in the city, I've had run ins with vicious dogs..................the cops told me that if I do shoot one, make sure I drag him on to my property, to make sure. Up nort at my other property, I don't think that they would do anything. It's kind of wild up there, with no covenants. You don't have police, you have a constable, whom I've never seen. You also have a sheriffs dept., who I don't think would get involved. Still could get sued I suppose. I really didn't have too much time to worry about consequences later. I surely wouldn't feel sorry for the owner. I love animals as much as the next person, don't hunt, and surely wouldn't want to hurt any animal on purpose, but when they become vicious, keep your dog at home, or it will die................that's where I draw the line. I think I went above and beyond, to not hurt these dogs, but it came REAL close.

Thanks.

That used to be the advice with humans too. Be sure to drag them inside. I would avoid that if at all possible. Today even the weakest of investigators will find the truth.
And once they catch you in one little white lie, it's generally all down hill from there.

The LE in my city, really have a hatred for any attacking type of dog. They are younger, testosterone filled, and especially hate Rotties, and Pitbulls. My city happens to contain s***loads of them. I think that the younger cops have had to deal more with these kind of dogs than the older guys/gals. The older cops didn't have to deal with this Rottie/Pitbull crap on a daily basis. I realize that this behavior is usually the result of an idiot human being on the other end of the leash. I had an incident when walking with my then Lab, and my wife. We were confronted by a Rottie, and a pitbull at the same time. They wanted to kill our dog. They were both zoned in and getting ready to attack. This was before carry in our state, and I had to kick the Rottie twice in the face, to get him away from my dog, which I though was my downfall. I was screaming for my wife to just keep moving, and she kept freezing. She managed to get home, and call the police, and I must say, they arrived in about a minute, 4 squads. I had been holding them at bay the best that I could. The first cop that got out of his car already had his firearm of choice ready. He said, "where is that pos, I hate those f*****g pitbulls". As we are standing in the street, the pitbull comes over, and is sniffing the cops leg. He's got his firearm about 6 inches from the dogs head, just waiting for any excuse, any little ***. I told him that I was ready to go home, and retrieve my firearm, and shoot both of them. I'd take the jail time. Who knows, they could have gone for my wife also, since she was in control of the dog. He was the cop that said, if I do, make sure I drag him on to my property. I said, no, I would rather leave them in the street for their owner to find them. This was the second time my dog had been attacked, he got a bunch of stitches the first time. This was before I had met my wife, and he was a younger dog, who could recover a lot better. I find out later, that the owners had been ticketed 110 times for their dogs attacking other dogs. They were even made to put up a fence, but this didn't do much good, when you don't close the gate. Luckily they are gone now, but those were 2 more dogs and an owner who had a lucky day. If it happened today, I'd kill them both. This coming from someone who loves all sizes of dogs and cats, and all other animals.

nO DOUBT IF YOUR WALKING dsown a county road or off anyone property a dog must be leashed up, so if he attacks on property other than the owners, he is bought and paid for. I walk the same 4 mile area ever da and have for years and there is at leat a half dozen dogs in that mileage that when loose are a real problem. I have had to call the sheriff's dept on two of those dogs i te past and they have always came and told the owner that he must keep his dogs penned up or they can be fined. The deputy also toldme that if they get agressive on a county road, then I should protect myself. He knows I carr and his nbext comment was shoot the dog, and ur covered, but don't shoot the dog on the owners property. I luv dogs,k but but one day walking I walked by a small pickup with the slide back window in it andin the truck was a big ass doberman and a big ass mixed dog. when they see me, they went crazy and busted out the slide portion of the back windown to try to get out. Luckily for me and the owner, he was able to corral them before they could get out that window. the dobbie was two damn big to get thru that window. One dog normally one can bluff themn, but when there is more thanone then they tend to feed ouff of each utter for having more agressive actions. I never walk withoutmy kahr, and when I get in tat arera I always have the gun in my hand in my front pocket. y wife walkes with me most of the time and no way will allow an agressive dog to fokk with my wife. Ihave always felt that i would give any dog the first bite and then he is mine but not so when my wife is with me. I used to ride with an animal control cop who had 3 dobbies and whenI was at their hoe they were nice dogs, never a threat, but one day I was there and I inquired about how come I only see one dobbie. and his commet was that he came home from work and he always keep two of them in a penned area and low and behold the dogs must have got intoa fight and one was dead and the other was bloody from the fight. He took the dobbie out back in the lot and killed it and buried it..

I don't know to many LEO guys especially county cops who have any sympthaty for dobbies, and pitbulls and big mixed breed dogs who just run loose. Its those lttle "heeler" that piss me off,k thpose chiwauwas and little yorkies that just sneak up n you and ***. Kinda hard to shoot one of those when a good swift kick for a 3 point field goal will teach most a lesson. I luv dogs, always have..

When we were kids a buddy's mom had the nastiest little ankle biter. I never understood what made the tiny fella so vicious until they asked me to join in on a game of doggie bowling = sliding him across the floor at some makeshift pins. Kinda understood the poor guy after that. Just sayin'.
