Well, i'm a sucker for a Remington 700. This gun came in the front tdooor of a show last weekend. Saw the 2 guys. Went over to check it out, but some other collecters had alreday grabbed it. Guy wanted 5 bills for it and 275 for a couple of poly strocked guns a Sav 110 & a Mossy in .270 & .30-06. I offered 4 for the poly guns. They would not take less than 5 for the pair. Ileft thinking the Remmy was gone. One hald alreday offered 4 for it.
It was almost show closing time & I saw them again. The poly guns were gone & they still had the Remmy. They were down to 450 on it. Told them the show was closing & people were already packing up. Take 4 bills for it or leave it. Guy had a pistol case with several scopes. He said if it bought a scope, I could have the Remmy for 4. They had a couple of low bucks 4Xs for 30 each, A Bushnell variable for 70 and a Leupold Variable for 150. Didn't want the 4Xs, The use Leupold was too risky for 150. They took 25 for the Bushnell, a 3X9X50.
Gun is an older BDL in .270 Winch. It had a few stock blems and a nic buttpad added to tame reclil. It had a set of rings and bases that are steel, Weaver brand. Already set the Bushnell on it and bore sightted it. Ran a few rounds to get an on paper zero at 30 yards. Gun worked really nice. Gotta reload some more ammo and do a range reuport later. I already had a later model BDL in .270 cal just like it that has never been in the field since I got it like 35 years ago. So, this one will probably see some field use.

You should have taken the Leupold. They're guaranteed for life. No questions asked. One of my kids dropped one of my high powered rifles on the concrete floor of the basement and bent the scope tube. I sent it to Leupold for repair expecting a bill and they returned a brand new scope at no charge. You can't beat a Leupold.

Nice rifle. I've developed a strong appreciation of walnut stocked bolt rifles. Enjoy it.

50 years ago I bought a .222 Remington BDL Custom Deluxe and added a 8x scope for varmits, primarily ground hogs. They could destroy a farmer's soybean field pretty dang quick. It had a beautiful stock. First time I bolted in a cartridge the gun fired. Had to send it in for repairs. When I got it back they had mangled the stock. Sent it back again. Came back with a new stock, but it was no where as purty as the first one. Years later (tweren't no internet then) I found out that Remington had a big long term problem with rifles that fired just like mine did. Had to sell it a couple years later because I was teaching school then and needed the $$. I haven't run across a .222 in a ****'s age.

I have been aware of the problem with the guns for years. I have never had one that fired when the bolt closed, but others told me that their guns did. I had one walnut & blue ADL that would fire with a light toouch of the trigger. However, I know that one was lightened intentionally. Got it from a local coach that had it done. My F in law had one AD in a deer blind with it. No injuries.
I had a couple of the Remington .222s. One was a 600 and the other a 788. Outstanding accuracy. You could hit a dime with them at 100 yds consistantly. I could kick myself in the *** for ever selling them. Wouldn't matter much now. I can hardly see well enough to hit the siade of a barn now. That is if I even see the barn. Well, I can still shoot paper on a good day. And I hate passing up a walnut stocked Remmy at a fair price.
I have only seen a couple of .222s lately. They were the Savage Mod 340s. I had a few of those over the years too. Started shooting varmints in farmer's fields as a kid with one of the 340s & a well used Winchester Mod 43 bolt gun in .22 Hornet that was my dad's first deer gun back in the 1950s.

Nice rifle sir!
I've one 700 myself, though not as pretty (an LTR in .308).
I'm one of those that did have theirs fire when closing the bolt. I bought it used and the shop I bought it from has a lifetime warranty policy on all firearms they sell, so I chose to let them deal with it. Their smith (quite good) adjusted the trigger and glued (thread sealer) the screws in place. I'm quite pleased with the trigger, but have been debating taking Big Green up on their "opportunity for any concerned consumers who have the Remington Model 700, Seven, Sportsman 78, 673, 710, 715, 770, 600, 660, XP-100, 721, 722 and 725 rifles with either a Walker trigger mechanism, or a trigger mechanism which utilizes a ‘trigger connector’ to have Remington install a new trigger.” http://remingtonfirearmsclassactionsettlement.com/

My oldest son bought himself a BDL in .30-06 thirty years ago. He's taken a number of deer & hogs with it, although it's a bit too much gun for Whitetail.
It is a beautiful rifle with a good trigger.
