View Full Version : CW45 with Crimson trace installed - problem with 'grip' and laser activation...

I installed the CT-434 triggerguard laser on my CW45 (the laser is activated by a button on the front of the grip)... Now, during a class I was taking, the objective was to draw the weapon from the holster and put the sights on target quickly and safely...the instructors were adamant that we use the 'first grip' we had on the weapon...as such, I NEVER activated the laser with the first grip...it would require me to 'adjust' my grip while on target in order to activate it. This was frowned upon as they believe it takes 'extra time' for me to process this adjustment and reaquire the target...(for the sake of simplicity, lets assume I needed to stop an attacker)...its those extra couple of seconds that make the difference...I'm currently using an uncle mikes 'universal' type holster with retention strap (but for the drill, the straps were removed so I could get this out quickly).

My question to the group is this: has anyone else experienced the same issue with the CT-434 and if so, what did you do to correct it?

I'm not 'married' to this particular holster but I don't want to get into the 'trial and error' stage and spend a crapload of $$ trying out different holsters...so, if ya have recommendations on how to resolve this laser activation issue, please speak up...Thanks!! JV

Git some different instructors.. :D

My wife has a CW45 with the laser doohicky and you can't grip the gun properly without the laser coming on.

I would prefer a less sensitive situation like the on on my 10 mm 1911. It don't come on until I squeeze it a bit.

With or without the laser I like a holster that I can grab the pistol just the way I'm gonna hold it when I bring it up and not make and adjustments.

I like the grip well above the holster top so it doesn't interfere with this grip.

I had a laser on my PM45 and I never had a grip issue even drawing from an ankle holster which does give good access to the grip but also has a strap and stuff that interferes.

I would recommend new instructor/s and a better designed holster.

A good instructor would help you understand what was needed to "fix" the issue!

Thanks guys....i'm going to try and find another holster that will allow a better initial grip on the weapon. Appreciate the input!
