Well... during the Holidays, on a whim, I bought one of the new "made in USA" Century Arms AK's. Century does not have a great reputation for quality, but I bought it from a LGS, that I do a lot of business with.
The owner assured me I would not be disappointed. I finally took it to the range today, shooting TuL FMJ and Wolf HP, with the installed iron sights I was shooting 2-3" groups at 50 yards, good enough for me. I have to say I was extremely impressed. No failures of any kind, ran like a sewing machine. This was my first and only AK shooting, the gas tube gets Really really hot, got to be careful where you put your paw.
It comes with 2 Magpul magazines, I bought one more Magpul and a Tapco, both brands of mags ran great, and both ammo flavors ran great.

I bought this for plinking and SHTF.

Internet reviews show 3-5" groups at 100 yards, in line with what I saw. Good enough for me. Century Arms claims 1 MOA capable, not sure about that.

This is my first encounter with an AK, and when you field strip it, you say to your self, my god, no wonder these things run so well, I am was impressed with the simplicity of it all.
Supposedly there are 10 Ak's for every AR, I believe it.

Live long and Prosper,

Ken M.

I had a Yugoslav milled receiver/folding stock AK in the 1980's, sold it when they became huge dollars. I think I paid $175 for it, they were considered low grade garbage... just cheap to shoot. I sold it for $750 as I recall.

Ended up getting a Century AK-63D, which is ... a milled receiver, and folding stock. The receiver, is USA made, the rest is "import", Hungarian I think. Mine has a USA barrel. It shoots fine. I didn't try to accuracy test it, but I was able to hit old cans, and paper plates at enough paces that it was a chore to walk down and set 'em up.

I think of it this way - if I can hit a GingerAle can, or a small paper plate most of the times at what was probably 125 or 150 yards, or come close enough to it that it fell over, then I'd have no problem at all hitting an enemy at that sort of distance. Further than that, I'd have more time, maybe not have to shoot and reveal where I was.

I think the "old" Century stuff suffered from the woes of mismatched production. I sold scores of Norinco AK's and they were horrible, made the Century stuff in the 80's/90's look golden.

I have no problem with my AK63D, was eyeing a RAS47, or better yet an C39 (or V2) for a non folder.
