Is anyone aware of anyone doing wood grips for the MK40? I've searched till my eyes went crossed on multiple occasions, but other than sending it in for a hand made custom grip, I haven't been able to find anything other than the factory grips. Appreciate any leads.

~ Cheers

The wood grips that kahr offers are the only ones I know of besides custom made.
Bawanna may not need your pistol to make grips for it: http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?5082-Come-Into-Bawanna-s-Famous-Grip-Emporium

If your not dead set on wood, Lakeline LLC has some nice G10 grips for the MK40: https://lakelinellc.com/shop/mk-series-g10-grips/

Greg

Thank you for the welcome and great info, Greg!

My little girl and I have grown close over the years and I'm reluctant to let her out of my sight and into a strangers hands. ;) Besides.. I would probably look a little funny trying to walk straight without the counterweight.

I'll message Bawanna and see what he might be able to do for her.

MUCH appreciated for the heads up!

Why don't you like the factory grips? They are premium grips.

Hello Ikeo. I certainly didn't intend to disparage Kahr's grips. It's not that I particularly "dislike" them, it's just that, the ones that I've seen and handled, they lack a bit of "warmth"(?)... for lack of a better word. It's difficult to articulate and not exclusive to Kahr's Hogue grips. I see them and think, "yup.. wood grips.. nice!" Whereas some grips you just kind of "feel" and can't help thinking, "I don't care who you are... them THERE are just gorgeous!" KWIM? You just want to stare and take in every detail.

What's the old adage? Something about beauty getting stuck in your eye?? ;)

A lot of that is just the nature of wood. You can make 10 identical sets of grips or in my case very similar but never identical and 9 of them will be "Nice wood", and one will take your breath away and make you cry.

Kind of natures way of letting everyone know she's in control I guess.

Also why you can buy a 8' beautiful piece of wood thinking lots of grips, but when you get to making sawdust you get 2 or 3 beauties and lots of "Nice wood".

EXACTLY!! I've seen a lot of "nice wood" in the Kahr grips, but I've never seen one that "moved" me. Natures awesome beauty wrapped around man made precision in your palm... now THAT floats MY boat! :D Priceless!

Normally when I hear someone use the word warmth its in reference to the wear pattern a grip takes over time as well as the lack of wood polish to make it seem more natural.

You could just order a set of factorys without checkering and rough them up with some fine sandpaper. Afterwards oil them. Way cheaper than full customs. Have a picture of what your looking for?

The factory wood grips can also be thinned down considerably and then checkered or inlaid or whatever to make them your own.

Some of them are quite nice looking, the trouble is, it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get.

I've slimmed down and checkered several, not a bad way to go.
