...to quote a good friend. I was a beautiful, sunny day today so we long-underweared it up, braved the 24 degrees and headed to the gun club. Wound up shooting 4 rounds of trap and 2 courses of 5 stand. I hope you all got a chance to get some shooting in this weekend too.
Thanks,

I don't shoot on the weekends. I shoot for half price on Monday which is senior day at my local indoor range. I'm cheap and a creature of comfort. :)

Color me jealous. Mondays are work days for me. ;) Thinking on it. I hadn't shot anything, anywhere in quite a while. So yesterday was long overdue and fun.

I slog into the wet entrance to a field our family owns, unload a range bag or two, maybe a Mosin Nagant and/or an 870, and my .45 ACP handguns. I collected political candidate's posters after the last election cycle and place them in the woods at various points: left, right, middle, near, far, way far. My friend and coach comes with me and we set up defensive scenarios. Then we expend 300 rounds or so. If it's still light enough we shoot the Mosin Nagant for 20 rounds or so. I try to do this monthly and more often in better weather. A couple of felled trees' root balls also serve as backstops for target destruction to warm up. My PM45 functions well and keeps me sharp for CC.

Years ago a friend of mine built a range in his backyard. He had about 10 acres of property. I was sighting in my .30-06 when a neighbor kid on a dirt bike decided to jump the pile of dirt that we were using as a backstop. I don't know if the bullet passed over or under him, but I do know that it was close. Both of us had to change our underwear.

Been in partners with three friends for 30+ years on a 300 acre plot of heaven. We have a cabin and shoot from the porch. No running water, so the women stay home! Staked target holders and dead trees digest the lead. We're lucky people! In fact, I've only been to an indoor range a few times. Too many rules and other people.

Being a born and bred displaced Missoura dirt farmer I know of a few places such as you mention.
Some of my cousins still own or have access to such places. Heaven indeed.
No fun to shoot with rules and people (you don't know) or rangemasters (usually clueless) looking over your shoulder watching your every move.
It has to be this way since most people at the range regardless of age do require adult supervision.
Another one of those things badly effected by lawyers and insurance companies.
Have 15 acres of forested land and just like ^^Dbholfo^^ have political signs. However the drive is 45 minutes away. Slick roads and short days interfere with shooting time.

I can go to my gun club, 7 days a week, from sun up to sun down, and shoot outside, which I prefer. I can practice more things when no one is there:) I own 3 acres up nort, but I could have a Muggsy moment, if not careful. I can shoot off of my back deck. I am still thinking about getting a large bullet trap for the yard and the garage.
