Santa was a little late. He said he just wanted to make sure everything was good, but i think he and the misses, and a bunch of his elves probably went and had some fun first.
been a lookin` for a pistol cal. carbine and realy would have liked a marlin camp, but the prices seemed a bit too much lately.
then a little while ago i was reading the american rifleman and saw an ad. from mechtech systems.(maybe youve heard of them?)
they sell basically a carbine upper and you install your own pistol lower frame.
this one is for my r1 1911
of course it got here just in time for the blizzard. hoping to see some nicer weather this weekend for some testing,

They don't exactly give those things away though either do they? Seems like some I've seen were still a might pricey for my side of the tracks.
Those are way cool. I'd do it with a Glock .45, just for the magazine capacity, but hey... 1911 base is way cool too.
I'm amazed by the BATF double standard.
You can take a pistol - add a MechTech upper and its a carbine (a long gun). That's legal. But once its a long gun, "technically" you can't revert it back to pistol, but ATF looks the other way I suppose.
BUT - you take a TITLE II pistol, convert it to TITLE II carbine - and they don't look the other way, you cannot revert it back, unless you get another $200 stamp, and Form 1 approval.
Interesting.
But heck, one of these days... I don't like GLOCK, but... they're available and do shoot, and the M/T upper is there for 'em.
What would be really fun is an FN Five-7 MechTech upper. Oh, that would rock big time.

HarryLee, maybe next year? maybe they`ll make one for your xdm 3.8?
barrettabone, according to Hickok 45 and other u-tubers, they work great, so i took a chance.
Bawanna, They aint cheap at just under $600 delivered, with the red/green dot on top.
CJB, Apparently there is a technicality/loophole in BATFE rules about these, but i dont understand the legalese/gobbledygook. Something about it not being a complete firearm??? Sorta like buying an ar15 upper? (no ffl paper work, shipped directly to house)
A few things i`ve seen so far:
no hold open after last round
Extended safety on the r1 enhanced does not work, needs either standard safety or mr. dremmel for clearance
red/green dot sits too low for me to sight easily, will need a 3/4 in. riser
If i had bought the glock 30sf i had been looking for when i bought my cw45, well, i probably wouldn`t be here telling ya`ll about this.

Finally had a chance to get this to the range.
It sure is fun!
First thing i found is i really do need a riser for the r/g dot site, gotta really push the cheek down onto the stock to get a sight. I`m thinking 3/4" piccatinny riser would be about right.
Second thing is i need more powerful ammo, this bolt is HUGE and heavy. lots of failure to eject/ jams. dont think i need +p, but definitely full power ammo.
Accuracy was pretty decent, at fifty yards. was hitting chest area of silhouette regularly and about six out of eight hits on steel (about 6" sq.) At 25 yards was 16 for 16 in head. (rapid)
Did i mention this thing is FUN?

Interesting. I had three 1911s - Colt, Springfield Armory, & Remington, but gave them all away to family members who suddenly "discovered" how much they liked them. May have to get another one.

been a while since i reported on this,
First the bad news: the extractor was bad
But the good news; after sending it back i got a call yesterday (just one day after they received it), they installed new extractor and recoil spring and shipped it out, asked for a couple of spare recoil springs be packed with it (to save shipping costs)
Should arrive Tuesday 4/12
I`ll let ya know how it goes once i get it out for another hundred rounds or so.
