View Full Version : CW380 fresh out the box FTF on every round
Good day folks,
This past weekend I reach it recently purchased a new cw380.
I had taken the gun to field strip and oiled according to the owners guide.
Having my concealed weapons license I was off to the range to accomplish the 200+ round break in regimen.
Opening the box and eagerly place in a full column of new Remington 95 grain cartridges in the magazine.
Pulled back the slide to the locked position, inserted the magazine and release the slide lock.
Everything sounds good so far until the first rounds rim got lodged in the ejector. And every successive round behind this did also.
After approximately 10 rounds of this occurring I decided it would be best to stop these attempts.
Does anyone have any thoughts about this before I simply call Kaha and ship it back.
Your input is greatly appreciated thank you guys again.

So the slide did not close all the way?

Only that you might let somebody used to tiny pistols give it a try. If the same thing happens, send it back.
Thanks so much for the replies kcarr and slow.
Yes the slide only makes it about a third of the way closed.
I even took out my pair of micrometer and check my cartridges.

My first suggestion would be to check that the extractor moves smoothly and has adequate travel.
Next, disassemble the magazine and make sure the spring is correctly oriented to the follower; while it's apart smooth any sharp edges on the feed lips.
Still no joy, read this: http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?26232-Found-solution-to-FTF-and-failure-to-return-to-battery-on-CW-380 (or contact Kahr Customer Service).

I totally understand newest and your frustration. I had to send back a p380 twice before it would function properly. 1st time out, 100 rounds, about 80% failures. 4 weeks at kahr....2nd time out 100 rounds almost 100% failure (i was pissed).... Just got it back yesterday, took it out today, first 50 rounds I had at least 75% failures. Shot another 50 and it was maybe 25%.... The next 100 I had 1 failure (weak hand, possible limp wrist). 50 rounds of critical defense, 100%!
This is the best 380 on the market, unfortunately they sometimes have issues. Kahr is good about taking care of their customers, even if it takes multiple visits :).
Both times the armorer comments were
"Reworked ejector"

Thanks gb and for the comments stony, I'll check the magazine spring and you mentioned checking the feed lips. The under side of the mag lips? The part that touches the front portion of the cartrige, before it leaves the magazine, correct?
Your time is really appreciated!

Hello Macc. Like you I had nothing but problems with my new Cw380. I brought it home from the first range trip got on here and started searching for answers. This place is a goldmine of info for Kahr owners. I followed the new Kahr prep to the letter, mag fixes polish job etc. Major improvement next time out. At about 150 rnds my little jewel decided it had caused me enough headaches and suddenly started running like a well tuned Singer. Bottom line, don't give up buddy. When this bronco is broken in it becomes an excellent rider.

Sorry, I may be late to this thread. But I had exactly the same problem with my wife's P380. It may be the ammo. Along with the gun I purchased 100 rounds. One box of American Eagle, the other Fiocchi. After a thorough cleaning off to the rage for break-in. The first box I ran was the American Eagle. It had the usual hiccups you get with a new mouse gun, nothing out of the ordinary. Next, I loaded the Fiocchi. Tried to chamber it according to the Kahr instruction, lock slide, drop in mag, hit slide release. The Fiocchi jammed in the chamber. It would not go into battery. I removed the mag, cleared the round and tried it again. Same thing. Switched mags. On the other mag, the gun did go into battery and shoot. But the next round jammed, failed to go into battery. I cleared the gun and gave up. The next weekend I picked up more American Eagle. Gun ran ok. Just for the heck of it tried the Fiocchi, I love to live dangerously.....jammed again. There were other issues well after the 200 round break in so it went to Kahr for service, twice. That was a few hundred rounds ago. Now gun runs great. Will run American Eagle, Sig Sauer, and PMC with only the usual hiccups associated with micro 380's. By the way, the Fiocchi ran great on my new DB380 gen 2.
Okay guys on a tip from Greg leading me to tigman250's link http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?26232-Found-solution
This seems to be the exact same issue that I'm having.
Test:
I looked at some various 380 ammunition a friend of mine had, and came to a conclusion that the rim thickness on the cartrige that I was trying to use, was typical .045 inches in-depth (normal spec for a .380) . I found that the Blazer aluminum ammo was averaging .042:in rim thickness.
To my surprise, I found a few boxes and went to the range today ( for the first time with this gun).
And the Blazers not only loaded , but shot flawlessly.
Thinking after 150 rounds of this, I would try my Remington originals that had the issues of not loading into battery at all.
But no dice at all. They immediate fail to feed sticking under the extractor as the very first time I attempted to load.
It looks like I'll be making a phone call to Kahr... as I obviously don't want to carry the Blazer ammunition to actually depend on.
On a side note wow she sure did shoot a nice and handle very well.

Fiocchi fmj doesn't typically run in Kahr 380s.

Try Monarch or Blazer for the range, and Federal HST or Hydra-Shok for carry ammo. These are the only ammo types out of my tests that my gun will shoot without constant stovepipes.

Sounds like an amo issue and not the firearm. I've read a lot of the smaller Kahrs are picky about amo. I would find a carry amo and target amo it likes and shoot those.
My CW380 shot Winchester white box, Federal American Eagle, Hornady XTP, and Freedom Munitions no problem. I had lots of issues with local reloads
