I sold my 1911. It went to a good home. I've tried to like them...........I've tried to carry them................I've shot them..........they are nice firearms, just not my cup of tea. Of course, I wasn't going to replace it................until I saw this sitting in the case at the pawn shop up nort by my house. So, I spent some of the money and saved some of the money for ammo. The wife said I did good. She says that when I don't spend all of the money. Pats me on the head, and sends me on my way. I haven't shot it yet, but soon, and I will report how it goes. I think I got a good one(hope), no grit in the trigger pull, and the reset is smooth. New 2013.

The 1911 of course is my favorite cup of tea but the M&P series I find quite appealing to me, much more so than the other Tupperware contenders. The Springfield XD'S and XDS's are ok, my son has 3 I think but I'm much more partial to the M&P.

I voted for them when the department transitioned from Beretta's to Glocks. At the time holsters and stuff were difficult for the M&P, wasn't easy for the 45 glock really.

County a bit later went to the M&P's and all the deputies I've talked to love them.

Your wife is correct, you done good. You can go out and play now.

I never found the love needed to keep 1911's around ether . They shot well but to heavy for daily carry . Sold my last one a few months back and bought a ct45 as I had a pile of reloads . I have been a long time fan of the 40 for some time buying my first one in 1992 and still carry one now . Wife carry's a m&p9c and has a core and I bought a 4.25 full size 40 and gave it to a daughter as a house gun .

Enjoy that fine looking compact .

As you can see, I tried my hand at a bit of bling........................came out good for the first time. I wasn't going to try it on one of my more expensive firearms:o

1911 were high tech in 1912. But it's a new century and technology has advanced in the high speed lead delivery business. I think you will enjoy the M&P. Get a conversion barrel for 9mm and have two in one.

Nice looking M&P there Bone....I totally get the 1911 thing....I almost feel guilty and unamerican that I don't get along with them either, just not for me I guess but a great platform for some....I think it has to do with what you cut your teeth on....I started with revolvers and didn't own a semi auto until Smith came out with the model 645 .45 then traded up to my current 4506 which seems more normal and revolver like to me and I like having a hammer drop safety because I never could get used to the whole cocked and locked deal with a 1911 even though it's safe and perfectly normal for those who started with Mr. Browning's original wonder pistol....

Enjoy your M&P, I love my .40 full size and you should shoot the stock trigger for a while and if you like it then great but if not drop an Apex sear in there and enjoy what a good trigger the gun can have....Made mine a whole different gun....

Finally got to the range and shot a few rounds. 50 Blazer brass 180 gr. FMJ, 50 Federal 180 gr. FMJ, and 25 Federal 180 gr. JHP's. Not a hiccup..............actually, I wasn't sure about the trigger, but after this first round, I like it a lot. Smooth, no grit, short reset. It's a keeper and will be joining the rotation after one more outing. Nice firearm for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Any of you folks that just can't ride the 1911 band wagon, don't let them clutter up your toy box, send em straight to me right away. I'll give them a fine home and when I run out of room I'll forward them to Greg, might send him every other one or something to keep it fair.

I guess sitting full time the 1911 just feels fine on my hip, I kind of miss it when it's not there.

That being said I've had the M&P on the radar for some time and often lose focus I guess but it keeps coming back up on the want list. Mine will be a 45 of course. One thing to stray from a perfect gun, totally another to stray from a perfect caliber.

M&P's are great guns. you will really enjoy yours. The compacts feel great in-hand, and the size is just right for a basic CCW gun, IMHO. I have 4 M&P's: a M&P9C, an M&P .40 FS (Detroit PD trade in), a Shield 9 (NTS), and a new Shield 9 Performance Center. Between them, I've probably shot at least 3000-4000 rounds without a single malfunction in any of them. They are dead-nuts reliable guns. Once I have some trigger work done on the FS police trade-in (Those cop triggers really have a heavy pull and aren't very smooth), it will probably be my favorite range toy as it is very accurate and soft shooting for a .40. Congrats on the purchase!

I have posted reviews and range reports of the Shield 9 Performance Center and the FS M&P 40 Detroit Police trade-in in case anyone is interested:
