View Full Version : Striker sticking out after a dry fire.

I have another question about what is normal.

If I dry fire my CW9 the striker stays sticking out of the channel. It will go back in once you get past cocked and let the slide go forward. I am just noticing this now so it may have done it all along and I didn't know. Which points to a non issue maybe.

Here is my concern:
The manual says after you unload the gun pull the trigger. So when I go to load it again and pull the slide back and lock it the striker is sticking out. Unless I let the slide go back forward before loading the gun it will be sticking out when I release the slide with a full mag.

Now I have played with it a little and it looks like the striker always goes back in about a half inch before the chamber is fully closed. So it should never be an issue with it hitting the round when the gun is loading. But the safety guy in me is questioning if this is right. My XD doesn't do this.

You should be good to go. In my P380, if I try to load a round with it sticking out, the cartridge hits it and jams before the striker retracts. I've learned to cycle the slide once after dry firing or what I usually do is just turn the pistol upside down and pull the striker back via the'foot' accessed via the underside of the slide.

Nice to know it is more than just my gun. I took the gun down and looked at it some more. There is nothing holding it out and it pushed back with no effort, so doesn't seem like it will cause any issue.

It's normal. There is no worry of a slam fire.

I like this gun and I'm going to carry it. But with all the information on this forum it can make you paranoid.

Kahr site has a motion diagram how your gun resets the striker. Resets on the forward slide movement. It's cool!

Racking the slide a couple of times, before locking it back or inserting the mag, should get you what you want.

Put another hundred rounds through it today no issues. Added some Lakeline followers which are nice. I never had a problem hand racking but I wanted it to be easy for when the wife shoots it.

Thanks guys I just like to know it is normal to be that way in a Kahr.

It's surprising how many semi-autos are 100 percent runners. There are so many variables, including ammo, production tolerances, springs, etc., even the shooter themself! It's a wonder they do as well as they do. I have 8 semi auto firearms, and the only ones that ever give me trouble are the 22LR, and I attribute that to ammo, 100%. Good training will include recovery from a failure. It's just great that failure happens so rarely. Problems with these cool little guns can be found everywhere on this forum because there's so many poeple here that are passionate about solving them. Would'nt even be a forum if every gun was perfect! That'd be boring. Every firearm brand has aftermarket support to enhance and improve reliability and performance.
