View Full Version : Next .45.....
Considering a Para Warthog stainless, Colt New Agent (like the lack sights), Colt defender, or.....
I totally have enough full size 1911's. Like the 1911, like the Kahr better, but....something calling me to the 1911 (better known in my generation as the Colt .45 Auto). I have Commanders, I have Officers. I have tweener 4" Springfields. And 5" Govys. So, something different, and frankly, I've been missin my old Detonics.
So what say the crowd?

Well i know im probably in the minority, but i recently bought a kimber ultra raptor ll and i really like it. Put 200 rounds of s&b 230 grain through it and ran without a hitch. Very accurate. Also surprisingly managable recoil too. Its pretty much an ultra carry but a few added cosmetics.
For me, it came down to either the colt defender or the ultra raptor. And i chose the kimber because i wanted a stainless slide and the colt that was there was blued. Here she is:

I Carry a Dan Wesson CCO every day, all Day. So...if for carry take a look at a CCO, I know there are Colt models available too. Commander Slide on an Officer sized alloy frame. 29oz empty. One thing about my CCO, it has a ramped barrel, eats anything, any brand, any hollow points. Some purist don't care for a ramped barrel in a 1911, I'm all about reliability.
Shown with a PM45 for reference.

I believe that is a C6A carry model. Light double action. I think they stopped making them for a while now. Replacement is the PTX LDA Carry. I have heard that you only want a Canadian made Para. It's kind of a crap shoot with those smaller .45's. It's why I've always liked the ramped barrel. The Warthog has always intrigued me...........................

I have one of those with the beavertail though. My chief carried that with a commander length slide, no beavertail.
I think his is a CCO or CCW or something. Mine is a CC something too but don't remember.
Never gave me any trouble. I actually had 3 a full size double stack P13 a P7 Limited that I gave my son and the little one.
All great shooters.

I had a Warthog for a while. Great little pistol that ate anything I fed it. Guy at the range wanted it more than I did and offered more than I could turn down, so it's gone. However, I'd love to find a Para 12-45. Just a little bigger than a Warthog. They are little fatties. Good luck to ya.

I know you're partial to the 1911, but a lot of .45 fans don't seem to be aware of the nice Ruger SR45. Mine (a 10+1) is an easy shooter:

I think I'm looking for a small 1911 based pistol. Like I said, I got Govys, Commanders, Tweeners, Officers...
And Kahr PMs, and Sig P220s, and Ruger American 45, and Walther PPQ45 (a GREAT pistol... jeeze). Even got a Pitbull 45 revolver.
Still thinkin...

yep. It's a Para Carry LDA 6.45. And it does have a ramped 3 inch barrel. It's the closest thing to a MK45 I've ever found. Sweet trigger. This one was made in Canada around 2001 IIRC. And you are right Scotty. It does look best with the flush mag. I've only been able to find one of them. Them are Bawanna grips BTW.

Me thinks your next ".45" should be a 10mm! Check out Rock Islands new Rock Series 10's, built 70 series, or bump on up to a DW Razorback or Silverback. I think I remember you posting about a sweet Delta Elite you used to own and now miss. Hmmmm choices choices.

I'm sure everyone it so tired of hearing me praise HK.
But if you really want a double stack, bombproof, super accurate 45 ACP?
HK USPT45 12+1 is hard to beat.
Bomb proof, near match accurate and IMHO the ultimate suppressor host.
Except no substitutes!
BTW rumor has it.
With a Wolff spring upgrade.
A FS USP can handle 45 Super.
If you really want to play with power?
USPs can run cocked and locked.
But if you really want a 1911 platform?
Consider the new Coonan 357 Magnum.
Just some more thoughts

Won't own another HK product. Period. My P9s self destructed three times, was replaced twice. Whole gun. I'm done with high tech engineering of HK, prefer the low tech of JMB.

I have owned a Kimber Ultra CDP II for a number of years. No problems at all even shooting a variety of my handloads although last night I shot it at 50' against my 4.25" Ed Brown and and was quickly reminded, "size does matter".

I have one of the Para's kind of like b4uqzme's, except it is a 3.5 inch barrel, officer sized frame. It has always been great. It is about the same vintage. They used to have a stainless LDA 14.45 that I have always thought would be fun. You would have to find a used one, but the LDA trigger is really nice and different than a standard 1911.

Here's my next .45. I ordered this from Bud's yesterday, should have it in a few days. Can't Wait! S&W 1911SC e-series. Commander size, light weight scandium (I don't know what Scandium is; I think it's like Unobtanium), and just about the prettiest gun I've ever seen. Aesthetics are important to me, and I've wanted one of these for a long time. This is a stock photo I took off the internet, but as soon as I get mine I will post actual photos and a range report.

I've always felt that a pretty gun will show that you "cared" when the cops investigate your legal use of lethal force.
The prettiest part of any pistol, to me, is the hole at the end of the barrel. The bigger it is, the prettier. So pretty, I want to show it to every BG who cares to see it.

Oh that's Purdy shlike, I love those beautiful E series Smiths......FYI Scandium is the brand name that S&W calls what is really Upsidaisium which is a metal so light that it will float off if you don't keep it tied down......:lie:

Well it's flat and probably light, perfect for folks that want to pocket carry something that should be hanging on the belt but with regards to the look of the thing, well I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.
Plumb ugly to my untrained eye. I know ugly is to the eye of the beholder but not for me.
I'll stick to that E Series Smith. Now that's cool in all respects.
I don't got one YET but I'll hunt me down a rock and some string so when I do get one it won't float off on me.
Plan ahead as it were.

Greg old buddy. Buddies don't let buddies carry fugly guns. I veto any acquisition of said firearm on your behalf.
And your a beautiful person, like me you've maintained your rugged good looks and natural charm. Would be a damn shame to ruin all that at this stage of the game with folks laughing at one of these fugly guns.

Bawanna, my brother, we both already own Glocks.
As for our "rugged good looks", let's just say we both had our moments of brilliance: where we so dazzled and blinded the lovely ladies ladies in lives that they consented to marriage. "Natural charm" was just the plain dumb luck that those ladies are good souls who put up with us.

Speakest for yourself my good friend. No Glocks in Bawanna's house for probably a year.
I agree they have no asthetic value but I can almost tolerate those. I might in a weak moment own another some day but no plans in the near future.
So your saying us landing trophy wives was just a damn fluke. We just got lucky?
