I'm a sucker for a blued barrel and walnut stock. I stopped in to buy some 45colt ammo and spotted this one on clearance. Salesguy said they have a hard time selling rifles with wood stocks. Darn.
Weatherby Vanguard S2 .223 Sporter. Sorry for the lousy pic. It's finally winter in Ohio.

That's a beauty. Funny, I have a hard time buying rifles with plastic stocks, although I do have a few.

Thanks. I bought a Ruger with a plastic stock once and quickly switched it to walnut. I'll take the gamble of a few nicks or scratches. Wood is good.
It should be warm enough this weekend to take it out and sight it in (fingers crossed).

Wood is good and 45 Colt rocks! That's a beauty. Been pondering a 223 bolt rifle for awhile, that one looks good.

I have a custom stocked Sako in .223. It's my favorite "chuck" gun. Some day I'm going to have to learn how to do pictures.

^^^ thanks. I got "chucks" living under my back shed but the little critters scurry whenever I peak the hill to walk back there. There's no clear shot because of the hill. Now my dad's house is another story. You can watch and pick off "chucks" all day long from his back porch. It's about a 90yd shot. Might be a good place to break this one in. Hmmmm. The sun came out for a nano second so I tried to take a better pic.
Hand checkered? Wood is a pleasure to work with. Jeweled bolt, cheekpiece. Nice. Did it come with scope or did you select one of your favorites? How was the grouping? Handloads or factory?

^^^ Oh, I'm sure there was a machine involved in that checkering. Not everyone is the "Colonel". ;) I put my favorite Nikon Prostaff 2x7x32 on there and I cannot wait to get it out to sight it in. Weatherby guarantees a sub MOA with "premium" ammo although I'm not sure what "guarantee" means...probably send me a Starbucks gift card or something. But I got a whole bunch of assorted factory ammo on the shelf so I guess I'll get to see if any of it is premium. I'll let you know. :)

OK. The salesman recommended I float the barrel. I wonder why? Weatherby guarantees MOA accuracy just as it is and I just confirmed they are correct.
With that said. Here's a pic of a three shot group at 50 yds. Is that 3 shots thru 2 holes? I cannot imagine I yanked one all the way off the paper...

What is the scope on the rifle? I have a Weatherby Vanguard first series. (Howa 1500). Great rifle. I hate the synthetic stock and was thinking of a Boyd's laminate one.

The lower right could be 2 in 1. Of, course it could be the other, but the right one looks elongated... in any case pretty tight! :)

Hard to tell, both holes look pretty clean. The left one might be just a tad ragged and perhaps 2 shots but really hard to tell.
If you say it's 3 shots in two holes, I'll buy it and swear upon it but only with PC correct, non explicit swear words.

Wynn. Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40 (I put the 2x7 on another rifle). Yes I really like this rifle. Get the Boyd stock. Wood is good!
Well. I've shot 2 in the same hole before but it was really more like 2 in 1.364 holes. These look pretty clean. I guess I coulda flinched or hiccuped or got hit by a train or something. I'll just hafta go back and do it again. ;)
