I picked up this ole Cavalry sword replica at a swap meet last weekend. Only paid 60 bucks for it, guy had another one I might go back and get. Its good quality it turns out for a replica. Seen exact same real ones for 800 to 1000 and up. My side of the tracks I can live with a replica. The steel sheath was a little rusty and dirty but it cleaned up nice. Blade was perfect, no rust or anything at all. I was happy.

Got this little guy at the gunshow last month to go with my daily carry bawanna bowie. It was so cute, only about 4" long, I had to have it.
Made a kydex sheath, wear it as a neck knife now and then when I'm not wearing the little hunters scalpel Greg sent me long ago. Sharpest little knife I ever had that little thing.

I didn't buy anything, but a friend of mine made me a folding pocket knife. What makes the knife special is that my name is engraved on one side of the brass handle and a picture of my ship and it's name are engraved on the other. U.S.S. Nitro AE-23. Some day I've got to learn how to post pictures. You guys have no idea how devastatingly handsome I am. :)

I had a CS Mini Tanto SanMai III.... sharpest little knife I ever had. Held an edge like gangbusters. An ex GF was shaving the pills of fuzz off her jeans once in my NEW truck. I told her BE CAREFUL!!!! Wasn't thinking, went over the RR tracks, and she'd put a four inch gash in her leg. Straight to the hospital. Had to do a bit of explaining, but she'd saved up the little blue fuzzballs (so not to let 'em loose in the new truck), and by the end of it the cop and Dr were both just giving the "dumb ass!" face to both of us, and... I got the knife back, via Occifer Friendly depositing it into the glove box of my truck, and locking it (after making sure I had the key). He was doin' his job, not biggie really.

Edit - so I can say dumb and ass, but can't say dumb@ss without it being censored? What the ****?

This Spyderco Native is the most recent. It's become my EDC.

My 1st Native was stolen from my truck by a mechanic during a "test" drive after a repair, and the replacement I bought cost 3x$ as the stolen knife I had bought at Walmart.
I like Kershaw's folders for edc, because of the way they open(watch the vids at amazon), don't have a stud, and have rounder profile/not slab sided.
Flat knives feel like a tongue depressor in my hand.
Almost too big for pocket carry
http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-1776-Knife-SpeedSafe-Handle/dp/B00URWZ8J4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1456375921&sr=8-1&keywords=kershaw+1776+link

Kershaw sells some imports if you are on a budget, this one is "sweet":
http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-1830-Sweet-Pocket-Knife/dp/B00172A3DE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1456375821&sr=8-1&keywords=kershaw+oso+sweet

And this Benchmade mini griptilian, no stud, just a hole:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VRHBUA?keywords=benchmade%20mini%20griptilian&qid=1456375776&ref_=sr_1_14&s=sporting-goods&sr=1-14

Some inexpensive pieces I've acquired of late:

Found this at an estate sale, in a tub of knives marked "$2 ea."
No markings on the knife, but the craftsmanship is top shelf.

Ganzo G720, $20.95 with free 2 day shipping from Amazon Prime. Well made, big, hefty knife. There's a guy on YouTube that uses his to baton some firewood: not something I'd want to do with a folder, but good to see it held up to it.

Nice, an unusual pattern on that $2 knife
I think Ganzo makes/supplies knives for American knife makers that offer/sell imports too.
I think Benchmade used to sell imports from Ganzo, with some currently sold Ganzo's looking like copies of Benchmade models.

Oops, almost forgot one..until I needed to open a box this morning. This is an Ozark Trail's knife...$3.87 at Walmart.
It's a more than adequate knife for everyday tasks around the home or shop...it's not going to fall apart on you. If I had to travel by plane anywhere, I think I'd pick one of these up at my final destination (or any prolonged layover) for use there, then gift it to someone before my return flight.

Another Damascus knife that I put scales on, picked this up in January. The scales are Wenge, and this picture doesn't do it justice.

I'm still exploring the world of fixed blades. It's just that I have so much to learn. I came within ten dollars of buying a real pretty damascas blade with camel bone handles. The guy wanted 120 and I pulled out a hundred. He came down to 110 and wouldn't budge. I took that as a sign that God wanted me to step back and learn some more before I pull the trigger. It was a pretty thing though. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Damascus with camel bone for 120 bucks, sounds like a deal to me. I do love Damascus.

To me a knife just sings or it doesn't. I'm not all that up on all the different types of metals or edge grinds or any of that stuff.

If I like the shape of the blade and the size (most fixed blades are way bigger than they need to be in my book) it sings. Depending on how loud or well it sings it comes to live with me or not.

Having gotten into fixed blades, khukri's and swords the last few years, I really have little use for folders anymore. I still have some good folders but seldom carry them.

I'm in the same boat.
Would like a sword, but don't know enough about them to get one.:(
Closest thing I've got are a pair of Cold Steel Gurkha Kukris.
The top one is triple layer stainless VG-1 San Mai III. Second is 0-1 High Carbon. I do have one tip though. If you want the stainless version? Be very careful. The carbon one is sold often with a picture of the much more expensive stainless. Full Disclosure: I actually prefer the weight and balance of the carbon version. But the San Mai III stainless is a beauty:cool: They list at ~$700 . But I found one at some midwest bait and tackle for ~$325 - LOL. Now it's mine...

You guys are killing me with all that nice hardware, all I got is run of the mill stuff. Still like my Case MAKO that I’ve been lugging around for 30 years. BUT what I did just get is one of the work sharp Ken Onion edition sharpener. Been looking at them for sometime now finally ordered one, got it 2 days ago and must say it does put a nice edge on a knife, worth the money. Not one bad review when I researched them. Now the wife will have sharp kitchen knifes again http://www.kahrtalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13470&stc=1http://www.kahrtalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13471&stc=1http://www.kahrtalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13472&stc=1http://www.kahrtalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13473&stc=1

Got the Ken Onion sharpener too. IMHO nice for kitchen knives but I do not like the convex edge it delivers for my SD knives and EDC knives. The edge is robust for kitchen knives but seems to be crude for my EDC/SD carry. I like a "scalpel style" for my EDC/SD blades. Used a Gatco set up for the EDC/SD stuff and it was a lot of effort for me to get that highly polished edge. Nice edge from Gatco but the time it took was ridiculous and made me not want to ever use my blade for fear I would have to resharpen. I know guys can get great results quicker with similar style sharpeners, but not in my hands.

I'm a fan of Mora knives. The high carbon ones are all I've tried. At such a cheap price I beat them and haven't had one fail yet. They sharpen well and easily. Only thing I don't care for is the noisy sheaths they come in, but for the money it's forgivable.

I've found a little piece of moleskin will quiet some of the knife rattle in the Mora sheath. Some electrician tape and bank line seem to help with the rest...as will full Kydex:D

Yeah I got a nice Katana I won on the raffle, nice set. Got a nice Manjushree too. Nice sword that one too. I'm meeting Yangdu in Reno again in June. Get to meet her father too which should be fun. Hope I can hear good enough to get a few kami and Sherpa stories. Her sisters love me. (I'm a loveable guy sometimes) They are great cooks and love to wait on people or maybe just me. Good people.

Course once again your totally responsible for this addiction like a few other addictions you've shared with me too.
But I thank you once again, it's not a bad addiction. Cheaper than guns most of the time.

Benchmade 15031. Been my edc for 18 months now.
I sanded the tool marks out and polished the scales. I didn't like the wood to have tool marks in it.
While it was apart, I polished all the moving parts that were steel too. Works like magic. Sharp as hell and feels amazing. Oh, I sanded the bump off under the clip holes on the left side. I'm never going to put the clip on that side, so I sanded it flat. Feels better that way

Yes, some Spyderco's are made in the US in Golden CO. They also offer a lot of products made outside the US. Taiwan and Japan being the most prominent contributors. Good value these products.

As to the country of origin for Spyderco knives, I am not qualified to give you an accurate answer.
My PM2 has only needed a touchup on a Sharpmaker. I believe Chris Reeve collaborated with CPM in the development of S30V steel which evolved into S35V a bit later. Good enough for Chris Reeve, OK for me. I have Spydercos with both steels and find they both tune up well with a Sharpmaker followed by light stropping. I really cannot tell the difference between these two steels but I am not a heavy duty knife user. If I were, I would look into one of the supersteels like M4.

As to the country of origin for Spyderco knives, I am not qualified to give you an accurate answer. I choose the PM because it was stamped USA, solid as a rock, great lockup, super customer service, and at about $100, a fair price for that combination.

All that said, I find my Spyderco Dragonfly (Japanese made with VG10 steel) to be in my pocket more than any knife I own.

thanks for the reply. I am a spydie fan. Love the V G 10 steel. Holds an edge very well and touches up easily IMHO.
