View Full Version : Fail to Load/feed

I just bought a used PM9... havent had a chance to take it to the range yet.

I have been checking the reliablity of the feeding/getting used to the gun.

I have noticed that more often than not, the gun will fail to load/feed the out of the magazine when loading with the slide closed. This has happend with both WWB and mixed SD ammo. Also with all 3 mags (2-6rd and 1-7rd.)

With the slide closed, I seat the magazine, I deliberatly pull the slide completely to the rear and release, not riding the slide at all. About half the time the gun will jam. The nose of the bullet catches on the feed ramp of the barrel. This result in me having to manually lock the slide back to release the magazine.

I have taken the mags apart and made sure the springs were in correctly.

What seems to happen is when I seat the magazine, it forces the nose of the bullet down.

I do not have any issues when loading the gun from slidelock. From slidelock, the magazine is seated, the round remains angled up and the gun loads/feeds fine.

Is this typical? I try not to leave my guns with one in the chamber in the safe, but with a full magazine. By doing this the PM9 is not 100% reliable.

I always load with the slide open. Then I press the slide release and slingshot the slide forward to load the first round. The Kahr owner's manual also says to do this. I keep the gun loaded all the time so it's not an issue to me. The kahr slide is so tight and hard to rack manually--that is why you need to load the first round with the slide open.

This is the way it was designed. Kahr states this. It's a quirk but not a flaw.

lock the slide open, and insert a loaded magazine and now use the slide lock lever to release the magazne. If it feeds correctly then yournot hand racking it properly "yet". I can tell u this I had trouble properly hand racking my PM9 at the first git go. Use the slide lock lever, Kahr even states this in their manual. there is a reason for that. Kahr recoil springs are stout (very stout) and these that hand rack have issues. some don't. the gun will loosen up somewhat after rounds down range but kahrs are tight and they will stay tight. You will also with time and rounds down range get very good at hand racking. I can not do it with ease. There is a trick to proper hand racking . Someguns seemto hand rack with ease. My G19 I can damn near rack it with my feet even, it is just that easy, BUT it is half again as big as my PM9 and that is where most differenceis with hand racking these smaller guns. Just not alot of get ahold of as u well know.

Keep with it, u will get better with it but if the gun does OK with the slide release then the issue is the person behind the gun. One reason I have always stated that a gun (any gun) and the shooter both must mate up to be reliable.....
If you dn't have a kahr manual you can go on line at kahr.com and down load their complete manual. There is some helpful tips there.

Also you can and should go to the kahr tech section on this forum and hit on the LUBE CHART and also the PROPPER PREPPING OFYOUR NEW KAHR thread. These two are IMO musts for any semi owner. Both will make you a more happy kahr owner.

If u keep your kahr in a safe, IMO I wouldkeep it loaed and ready to go, but if ur aprenhensive abot that, then lock the slide open and have a loaded magazine alreadfy inserted and then all u need to do is hit the slide lock lever and u are rockin and rollin. Kahrs are IMO 100% reliable, u just have to set ur priorities of how u want to keep that gun around the home. I would not want in a panic situation to hand rack any semi.
