I tried a Steel Challenge match with my CW9 and it was fun.
These are "club practice" matches where everyone is welcome, and are allowed to start from the low ready position, without a holster.

From what I understand, all Steel Challenge stages are 5 targets, with all stages following a map as far as layout and target position/distance/type.
We shot 4 different stages, 5 times each, a 100 rounds if you don't miss:D
With running each stage 5 times, you see immediate improvement the 2nd/3rd run and then see fatigue or over-thinking take over on the 4th and 5th:o

They did not have enough ROs for every stage so there was some extended stand around time.
This was shortened some by loading mags for whoever was shooting and everyone picking up brass.

Unlike some other gun games, there's no need for more than 3 mags, running shoes, etc.

I have vowed NOT to compete anymore but it's hard not to get hooked on a shooting game once you try it.

Yes, there are some who use tricked out space guns, gunbelts with enough weighted mags to shoot the whole match without reloading, and puff loads with no recoil.

They do allow 22lr handguns and I believe a 22 would go a long way to even the playing field with those shooting Ray Gun rigs, without all the expense.

Someone commented that the CW9 trigger was slowing me down, to which I responded; you try starting with 7 rds and see how fast you shoot.
I'll try a 22LR next week and see if we can start a BUG class in the future.

After watching someone painfully compete with a 5 shot snubby and 2 speed loaders, I know I made the right choice trading my snubby for a Kahr.

Try a Steel Challenge match...it'll be fun, I promise:)

what is the maximum range. We don't have anything near that around here for miles but I like you would love to do it for my own training, I could even care less about a timer being used on my range event. I just would like to go through it once. At my age 67, I can't run like I used to, nor squat or bend as easy so again it would be a trainign excercise for jsut me, but if they are shooting at 20+ yards, then my PM9 would sit in the kahr, for I would just be pissing in the wind with it. but at 10 yards and under it would be a real blas to to try...

jocko:
It's not a run 'n gun, but we did move 6ft after shooting at 2 targets to shoot the remaining 3 during 1 stage.

I have shot twice, so I've seen 8 different "stages/layouts" and don't know how many different stages there are.
Most targets are within 20 yards with 12" round discs and torso size squares.
What I've seen as a good run at a close range stage is 4-5 seconds and some stages with targets out a ways maybe 20-40 seconds.

All targets can be shot in any order with 1 target the clock stopper and must be shot last.
I'm sure there is a Steel Challenge website but, like I said, I am trying to resist any thoughts of doing this seriously and will face the stages as they come, without any research.
